The loyalty with the listeners does exist, I've seen and experience it personally. However, their buying habits are fixed which isn't attractive to advertisers.

On the other hand, the Louisville metro has two oldies station so that might open up the potential of a standards/pre-Beatles oldies station. But it would either have to be on FM or a fat AM signal to cover the market day and night. Even if a decent AM signal is available you then battle the narrow band receivers and all of the part 15 monsters that will wipe out your signal.

1080 wasn't MOYL they were "stardust"

And 970 WAVG wasn't Music Of Your Life. It was ABC Stardust. Charlie kept the MOYL name and played the network spots to keep it. When I got there (92 or so) it was Kool Gold then went to Pure Gold (maybe it was Pure tehn Kool) from (I think) Westwood One. Then, it went to Sports.

That would've been impossible... "Music of Your Life" name, brand and logos are all trademark... Charlie wasn't that stupid to run the Stardust network but keep the brand and logo from another network...

As I stated in an earlier post, I think an Adult Standards station would do very well here. But, I'm wondering what satellite-delivered services still exist. Do Stardust and Music Of Your Life still operate, and do others (e.g. Jones Networks) provide the format? I know TM Century still has an extensive Standards library available.

I remenber listening to KMOX St. Louis, Saturday evenings into Sunday mornings as they presented "Music and Musings," an adult standards show with host Tony Orem, after late Cardinals baseball or Blues hockey broadcasts. Let me tell you, the music and announcer were smoother than warm butter! Sinatra, Nat "King" Cole, Mel Torme, Mantovani, Rosie Clooney...name them and this cat played them.

When Orem retired and KMOX/Infinity decided not to continue the show, the uproar from that demographic and even younger listeners was so strong I'll bet the PD's singed hair still hasn't grown back! Local listeners and large numbers of DX'ers let the station know that they didn't like the loss of the program. KMOX now runs a pop oldies show called "Route 66" in its place weekend nights.

Yes, Virginia, there's still an audience for Standards and advertisers will bite.

But he did. I worked there. 970 carried the ABC Starsust Network but he called it Music Of You Life. He was able to do so by playing MOYL network spots. When Charlie owned 1450 only, it was Al Hams MOYL. When he got 970, he carried Stardust. He was able to keep the MOYL logo and use the slogan as long as he played the MOYL commercials. If I'm not mistaken, the MOYL format was on reel to reel. When I got there the reel to reel automation was still in. We used it every Christmas.

Stardust is now known as Timeless Classics. musicofyourlife.com is still in operation. Jones Networks no longer carries the format.

Yes Music of Your Life is still around --

MOYL isn't reel to reel... it's satellite

Sad that the call letters, WLBJ went DARK.

They, of course, were first assigned to AM 1410 in Bowling Green,KY in 1940 then when WBVR bought the FM (96.7FM) the AM went back to the FCC the call letters traveled to Louisville...then i hear to the NORTHEAST where they are now DEAD & Gone. Sad, very SAD!

I worked @ WLBJ AM & FM/"Natural 97FM 1974-79

Good times...good memories.
