WNKO MOVE-IN

Click 101.5 is AWESOME! I've been waiting for someone in Dayton to bring a station to town that was harder than Mix 107.7 but not as hard as 103.9 The X, and Click is it. Check out the stream...good stuff if you want Alternative with a little Hot AC sprinkled in for flavor.
Wow, I figured that WNKO would go straight to their new tower once Kiss Country moved, but I guess this isn't the case.

Wonder if there will be a dust-up between WTDA and WNKO since WTDA builds its whole identity around the phrase Classic Hits?

The fact that Main Line is already supporting Click with TV ads will sure help! Unless I missed something, CC hasn't done a single TV spot for Gen-X since it debuted last summer (although they've done TV for 93.3, of course)! Also, from what I hear, Click's signal appears to have excellent coverage of Dayton. We're not in Columbus, Dorothy...

Here's one of the TV spots:

The WKSW change of frequency from 101.7 to 101.5 was of interest to me because WNKO couldn't start broadcasting from it's new tower tower site until WKSW was on 101.5 in Dayton.

Also, some of the promos that ran last Friday night on the NEW WNKO tower site, said, "Now, take WNKO with you were ever you go in Central, Ohio". They have said this is not a Columbus move-in and just allows their Licking County commuters to continue listing to then when they commute back and forth to work in Columbus. Also, the ID I heard was "WNKO,
New Albany, Newark". Of course, that dose not mean the station won't be sold in the future
to some Columbus broadcaster.

Maybe WNKO isn't on their new tower Full Time yet because of technical problems.? WNKO signed
on it's new tower site within a hour or two after WKSW signed off of 101.7 and on 101.5. WKSW sighed in 101.5 at 1:01 PM last Friday.

Their signal sucks in Central Ohio right now though.. Even in Westerville in the car its full of static which if their on their new tower at full power should not happen since their COL is New Albany.

I also noticed when they do their weather now they say for example when giving the current temps "It's 32 in New Albany 29 in Newark"

I love how the studio is still in Newark though their COL is New Albany.. but I guess as long as the main studio is within the 70dbu their 'legal' It's still weird to hear them super-serve Newark ohio yet their Legal id is "WNKO New Albany" Newark is not exactly a suburb of New Albany nor Columbus so it's kinda 'odd' compaired to the normal rim shot serving columbus from Westerville, etc.

Question is , I wonder if they will encode for PPM now that they will have a much greater reach in Central Ohio..(their music mix isn't to bad for a non corporate owned station) ... They could easly shave a little off WTDA's share.

Wonder why status says Dismissed? Does that just mean the test is over?

I'm still out of town for awhile -- Does the signal seem up to snuff today? Would still appreciate it if anyone who's listening could give a brief sample of their music...I haven't listened to NKO in several years, and they don't stream or list songs played.

The status on their applications this morning was "Application". Not sure why their applications were "Dismissed" this afternoon.

Maybe they will need to reapply before they are allowed to turn the new tower site back on?

From their FCC file:
Public Notice Comment
BLH-20110325AAR License to cover.
Dismissed per applicant's request 3/28/2011

This is almost heading into the direction of the "When will Mainline move 101.7 to 101.5 topic" ... Wonder why they would dismiss their request to be on the new tower? When I listened Sunday night, 101.7 clearly was not broadcasting from the new tower.. the signal was very weak even in Westerville.

The legal ID I've been hearing for the past few days is the usual "WNKO Newark." I was at Easton and across the east side of town tonight, though, and WNKO seemed much stronger than in the past. Then again, it didn't have the signal from Urbana clobbering it in many places.

I know on Friday they were mentioning I am pretty sure New Albany... It's interesting to see them now back to just Newark.. Something is a miss. Prior to the Urbana signal moving .. I could hear "Kiss Country" in parts of Western Franklin County quite often.

That is exactly my feelings. :D

Since last night, they have been broadcasting from their new tower.. They are still on it this morning but IDing as "WKNO Newark" instead of "WNKO New Albany, Newark".

Interesting the WTDA CE, Bill Bowin, did some engineering work for the new WNKO tower site. ::)
He was the supervising Engineer for the new WNKO tower project:

Maybe NABCO will eventually purchase the WNKO-FM? Just seems odd that NABCO CE would be involved with this.

Yes, interesting indeed, especially given that NKO's presence on TDA's turf would be a direct hit on TDA's identity -- unless NKO stops using "Classic Hits." You just might be onto something re the purchase...

If only they could get on the WOSU tower with WTDA. Maybe that is ultimately where it ends up if NABCO is really involved. Would NABCO go live and local with classic hits @ 101.7? Ahh, the speculation.
