Wolf No Longer Howling In NOLA

Skid was a fun talent to listen to! You could call this guy at the station he was on and you could talk for a good while on everything about radio!

Thanks, Quitnow. I appreciate your candor which is always delivered without arrogance.

And smashedcd...I should clarify. I can't say that Citadel's vision for Rockin' Country in New Orleans was bad. I was still in Memphis during RC's incarnation. As a concept, though, it has been tried several times in several markets, with limited viability. Being a country music fan who was raised on the rock of the 70's and 80's, I probably would've liked it. I just don't know if there is enough of you and me to comprise a large enough radio audience.

I actually thought it had a chance but the timing was really not good IMHO. City was in such a state of disaray when they flipped that no one really was paying enough attention to get them to sample

I agree, QN. Radio's allure goes beyond just the music. A smart operator, IMHO, would benefit from staffing up with strong air personalities around the clock. My buddy, Chris Clare, went to such a station in Pensacola.

He came from a station that was strong in personalities (I feel they get welcomed in pretty quick and made to feel at home) for such a small market size (KCIL) IMO

But glad to see he moved on somewheres good as I don't know him personally, but the work he did on the bayou sounded good.

Quit now sounds good in his ideas... maybe why real radio fans try and dig out the mom and pop stations sometimes to listen to?

Judging by what's happened on the bayou the last few weeks it appears Chris was smart to get out of KCIL when he did. A disorganized spring promotion, a shakeup at the end of it in the mornings and afternoons, then they fire the PD they just hired who put himself in mornings and put their 15+ year morning guy in the afternoon. WTF? When will Sunburst put KCIL on the block? I don't know if they will, or can, put KXOR, KMYO and KJIN up and get anything for them, but it looks like they may be setting up to sell out again and take the money and run like they did before.

It sounds like you're a fan of Chris', Trapper. Too bad I never ran into him. Heard him a couple of times. Always brought the energy and seemed ready to go. Too bad things are so tight budget wise...remember when you used to "find" the money to bring people like that aboard? Good to know he's landed. Pensacola...must be Cat Country. Looked online, 'XBM has the numbers, but doesn't seem like his kind of place. Don't see a Chris Clare on any station there. I saw a Captain Chris (Cat Country), so I think that may be him.? Captain??? Ummm....

Chris worked for me when I programmed in Indianapolis back in the day. The guy breathes radio, and no one preps harder for a show.

Captain Chris? I haven't checked the website. If it's him, I'll have to give him some shinola over that name. Wait a second. Who am I to talk!

What, your real name isn't "Trapper?" Who would have guessed? I wonder where they got Captain from? If he picked it, talent or not, he dropped a notch on my scale for picking such a name.

At least he didn't go with "Dr. Chris" or "Shadow!"

::) Or Sawtooth Mcmullen! lol :D Just givin' you a rough time Brian! ;) Always thought that was classic. Where'd you come up with that name BTW?

Jeremy
