Woooow KEGL....

I agree with QXZChamp.

KEGL needs to weed out the dinosaur rock and become more aggressive, similar to KUPD in Phoenix and KBPI in Denver. Even KATT in OKC rocks quite a bit harder than KEGL, and the former is definitely more aggressive on breaking new music, too.

KEGL plays some excellent stuff, but their problem is they also play a LOT of dinsosaur rock (about 30% of their playlist) that has been burnt to a crisp over the years. I think fans of newer rock get frustrated when they have to weed through the ancient crap.

BTW, one reason KTBZ does so well is because Houston has no active rock or mainstream rock station. They get a lot of listenership by default.

I have been listening to 97.1 off and on, since they went back to the rock format. Their playlist is pretty stale. Don't get me wrong, I'm a headbanger from way back, but hearing Stairway to Heaven gets old. XM has a channel called Deep Cuts. Lots of stuff that you hardly ever hear, but I know it won't work here.

Everybody wants to hear the same 25 tunes.

I can't stomach, for one minute, the Eagle's jock's passionate introductions to those 25 tunes..... I just can't handle it !!!

I'm a Rocker from way back, and I don't want to hear STH, or, Mandatory Metallica, or the usual Ozzy songs, or the candy ass songs --- that 45 year old mullet-wearing dudes live for....

Dallas Rock Radio --- Still Sucking after all these years !!!!

So...... dump the Rock format altogether.... and go EDM/Techno 24/7. Hardstyle ! ! ! 8)

All the talk in the morning is at least part of the problem IMO. How about five or so minutes of "entertaining" talk followed by a set of songs, etc? Just a thought.

Anyone listen to Russ? When I have, all he does is replay audio and comment, then his buddies laugh. Nothing he says even makes me crack a smile. Is he doing well in the ratings? Cause I don't get it, I used to love listening to him on 105.3, but not so much now.

I was wondering the same thing... He used to be awesome but now when I tune in they are like TMZ lite... All they do is play audio that Trey pulled (supposedly) and then they comment on it. Then when they get close to saying something they have to bleep Russ says "Clo do we need a break?" then they do and we have to listen to 15 minutes of Pick & Pull, Rick's Fort Worth etc. That show and that station is history IMO. Anyone??? :-*

Yea, RMS sucks now, it's not just you. Michael Savage has more humor than RMS

I wouldn't mind that

I've listened for about 8 months online. It seems like they've taken every bit of personality out of that radio station. Just because we live in a PPM world doesn't mean you have to take the personality OUT and just become a juke box. I've heard them seg into spots, out of spots, seg two songs together without mentioning the station or it's brand.

ALL ARE MISTAKES!

Live by PPM, DIE by PPM. You cannot just throw all the rules out of the book just to try to get PPM numbers. Some of the old adages are absolute and are truth. YOU MUST IDENTIFY the radio station.

They have watered down poor Russ Martin, and I bet they are paying him under $100,000. In fact, I'd guarantee it. They won't even allow the man to have a WEBSITE! Last I checked it links back to KEGL. THAT is sad. Listen to the bits KEGL puts up of his. His hands are tied. The beauty of that show when it was on KLLI was that it was edgy and raw, and when you cage that, it loses everything BUT THE NAME! A NAME isn't going to get you jack sh*t in today!! (cough howard)

Stand by for more genius observations.

You might want to check again about Russ' website. I just took a look at it. It's there. And only one link to KEGL near the top of the page.. http://www.russmartin.com

Russ Martin PPM weeklies for July are awful. little men 13th, big men 11th, or something like that. The King is gone, Elvis has officially left the building. Richie Whitt should go ahead and write his followup story properly Eulogizing Russ Martin.

The eagle will not change until russ's candy a** is gone, they cant afford to make two mistakes.. the first was hiring him.. the second would be to can his a** before his contract is up.

I canceled my SiriusXM two days ago but I couldn't stand it... Got it back today! Gotta
Once SiriusXM got the Iphone app, and I could listen anywhere, I don't listen to terrestrial radio at all and can't imagine ever going back to it. I still ocassionally visit this site to see how bad DFW radio still is. I even tuned in a little to listen the new old school station...horrible...and I'm glad to read that loser Russ M. is tanking.

Hiring wasn't the mistake. Shackling him and turning him into a ***** was/is. The Eagle (CLEAR CHANNEL) still has the same old M.O. - water everything down to be safe and don't let personalities be personalities. Same old thing, year after year.

Not even if they tempted you with a musical concert extravaganza in Las Vegas?

I was wondering if any one has any knowledge of how I can record my old tapes onto my labtop and post them. If anyone is interested of course. I have alot of tapes from KEGL back in 1999 and 2000, back when they sounded good. I also have alot of recordings of Kramer and Twich, and the old 5 O'Clock free for all, Robert Miguel, Chris Ryan, and Cindy. I cant believe how much better they sounded back then and it was 2000. Did they forget about such bands like Sevendust, Ministry, Dream Theater, Corrosion of Conformity, Anthrax, other songs by Pantera other than your usual, and much other songs that where forgotten but good. It seems like KEGL plays those moldy songs that everyone knows. No wonder they are sinking. Plus ,I have alot of old tapes from Q101 in Chicago back from 97' to 01'...
