Worst songs on country radio

the disco-ized country came and went quickly, as an interesting novelty in 1978. ironically, some of the few songs produced with that style even sounded good. the rap production country continues, and continues, and continues.......... someone please put a dagger in its heart. it sucked at the start, and gets suckier by the day.

eddie rabbit sang it best, on the capital nashville label, 1991 album "ten rounds", and the song "C-RAP".
it starts off in a rap style with these lyrics:

"I dont wanna hear any heavy metal. I dont wanna hear one more rap song. I dont wanna hear no dirty talkin' on the radio, all day long. I dont wanna hear any songs about satan. I dont wanna hear any violent screams. How in the world can they call that music, when you tic toc talkin with a drum machine".

then the production changes from rap, to country with the line:

"I wanna hear good ol' country music on the radio..............."

thanks eddie. way ahead of your time, in 1991!

There were quite a few country songs with a "disco" beat, even if they weren't called "disco."

"Let Your Love Flow" by the Bellamy Brothers (although it was more of a pop hit)
"Good-Hearted Woman" by Waylon and Willie
"Somebody's Knockin'" by Terri Gibbs
"Love In the First Degree" by Alabama

And then there's "Back On My Mind Again" by Ronnie Milsap...

which sounds suspiciously like...

Didn't "Let Your Love Flow" have a country mix and a pop mix? I remember playing the wrong one on a Saturday afternoon airshift several years ago and remarking how strange it sounded...

Don't know about that, but I heard a remixed version of it on the Superadio Supermix about 10 years or so ago. I believe I still have it on tape.

You guys are forgetting the totally forgettable Dontcha by T.G. Shepperd...Heavy disco beat....
Alot of T.G.'s stuff seemed to be "disco" to me.

I've saw some mentions of the Bill Anderson song "I cant wait any longer" but how about the single that followed that one. "Double S" had a similar sound. It wasn't a huge hit for bill, only making it to # 30 in December of 78. If you're not familiar with it, here's a link for it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOMEJ82SaAk Any takers as to what Double S May have stood for? I've a few ideas although they may be truncated if I say!

Speaking of T.G., I bought myself a 45 of T.G. with the songs "You're Going Out of My Mind", a Top 10 hit for him, and "Heat Lightning".
The 45 is from 1985.

looks like crainbo is building up his country music library, one hard copy 45 record at a time. dontcha know all the kids nowadays just automatically down load it electronically into an i-pod, er somethin'.

most of TG's stuff is somewhat mediocre, and 80's pop sounding....but, check out "slowburn" that smokes!

True, but that 45 sounds better than the compressed digital files the kids download.

Any song by Taylor Swift. She's pop not country.
How do you feel about "Mean"? I like that one. Although Miranda should have won on Sunday night, that's the song they played at least two of the many times she came up on stage.

It does make me uncomfortable to see her enjoying rap and rock so much. But she does look good. And she's so cute when she's surprised.

It won't be like that at the Grammys, where they go for quality.

Really? You think so? You don't want to see my list.

Grammys go for quality? That's a laugh.

To me, any song with country as the theme, She's country, country girls shake it for me, country wide. They're all written the same about how they're different from city people, drive trucks on dirt roads, cranking up Hank Williams Jr.

That theme is really getting annoying. It used to be taken for granted that country artists were country, they didn't need to keep validating it.

Yeah, that's kinda what I said back on page 23 of this thread. I call those songs "inwardly directed songs," songs about the format itself. Could apply to almost any song with "country" in the title. Maybe that's why they don't like Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood and Kid Rock, etc. None of them ever sing (or even talk) about how "country" they are.

Those songs seem to be more about pride than anything else. Alabama made a career with songs like that. From Tennessee River and My Home's In Alabama to Born Country. And they were one of the first pop country bands. But no one is more country than Randy Owen.

I think is was about pride. Now it is more about the need to try to prove themselves.
