WQCD becomes rocker "101.9 RXP" WRXP

How about NO nickelback and the like! even the DJ on the air, after the nickelback song, said nickelback, daughtry, etc. all sound alike.

Yes, I agree. Again, they're hyping themselves as an "intelligent" alternative to "radio hype", and Nickelback and their ilk are the antithesis of that.

Suggestions..Kaiser Chiefs, Spoon, Vampire Weekend, Rogue Wave, Radiohead, Nada Surf, Band of Horses, Ravonettes, Seawolf, Black Lips....

They have played Spoon and Rogue Wave which I commend them for. They've played Radiohead's latest as well but that doesn't really surprise me.

So far, I have mixed feelings on this station. I really like the general idea of this station, and there have been some nice surprises. But so far it's been a bit too heavy on stuff that you can hear on K-Rock, Q104.3, and/or WPLJ. I can understand the need to play familiar tracks, but it wouldn't hurt to be a bit more eclectic. There have also been some tracks that questionably fit in with what they seem to be going for, namely ones that lean a little too heavily towards either hard rock (AC/DC, Van Halen, Ozzy) or Hot AC (Sheryl Crow, newer Goo Goo Dolls). Again, though, they're playing some good stuff and I think this station has quite a bit of potential.

As for K-Rock, I think that now more than ever, their best bet would be to go for a very youthful, hard-edged sound with lots of new music. They should draw from both the Alternative and Active charts, but eliminate the soft stuff from the former and the trucker rock from the latter. Also get rid of the "old school rock" and cut back the airplay of recurrents and 90s staples. This would make for great counterprogramming to the older and softer lean of WRXP.

I don't think it's fair to criticize programmers not from NY - half the time PDs are given directives from above, and whether or not he/she is from the area has nothing to do with the quality of the station. Often they must jump through hoops in order to get the smallest thing done.... so I personally think that's a moot point.

by the way, for the sticklers for detail, the first song played was indeed "Rock And Roll" ,but it was not The Velvet Underground recording from the late 60s as implied on the site;it was the hard rockish ;live' version from a solo Lou Reed, from the Lou Reed Live album of the mid 70s,Mainman period,a version/recording which most of the NY rock listening audience is well familiar with;it would have been very ballsy and very right on if the actual Velvet Underground version had been played,
but listening now, I don't hear any more Lou,Iggy, or Mott, just Zep and Southern Rock/Allman Bros .so it may be back to CBS/FM-Z100 for me, my dears, but it was fun while it lasted(all 24 hours of it)..lol

I have information, from absolutley unreliable authorities, that Eastern Broadcasting, headed up by their CEO A.J. Wright, is about to buy 101.9FM. That's why they flipped. According to my ridiculously narcisisstic and egomaniacal source (awww... hell... I may as welll dish. AJ is my source), he's going to flip 101.9 to Religious Polkas.

I'm just reporting what I'm hearing.

The Playlist looked very Urban AC leaning their last day as wqcd looks like they are trying to draw people to KissFM after the flip

Now I need to look at Kiss FM and see if they added any Jazz Tracks to their Playlist to retain those that moved

Part of me is thinking I should stick with 107.1 The Peak....at least that station plays tons of music I've never heard beforee. :-\

A friend of mine used to OM over there. I told him he should just rip off XPN.

What's XPN?

WXPN, Philadelphia (University Park, PA, for legal purposes) - For several hours a day, they run a shift known as "Y-Rock on XPN", which started not too long after longtime Philly alternative station Y-100 bit the dust. Y-100 persona Jim McGuinn made the move to 'XPN upon the demise of Y-100.

University Park? That's Penn State, 250 miles away on the other side of the state. WXPN is, and has always been, licensed to Philadelphia itself, under the University of Pennsylvania's aegis.

Why am I thinking of a college station from "University Park" then? Hmmm...

All right, so we know what the first song played on RXP was, but does anyone know what the last song played on QCD was?

But the WRXP Log is now availabe . . .

As much as I'm sad to see WQCD go, I can still enjoy all the great jazz hits at home as part of my Optimum package. When I'm at work and feel the need to mellow out with some smooth grooves I go to Yahoo music ;)
