that may be true but FSR is under same coperate umbrella as is Andy's former Employer. so im sure he may have been uncomfortable walking back into the Cincy CC Building to do the show for FSR

How is FSR under the same umbrella?

Fox is News Corp and, well, CC is CC.... or Bain Capital or whatever....
At any rate, CC may be an affiliate but there is no cross ownership or mutual ownership. If so, someone better notify Rupert.

From Wikipedia:Fox Sports Radio, abbreviated FSR, is an international radio network consisting of sports talk programming. The network is a service of Premiere Radio Networks (a subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications). Fox Sports itself has minimal control over the network; it is simply branded as such per a two-way marketing agreement with Fox Sports's parent company News Corporation

Well, i learned something new today. Thanks for correcting me, jcr.
If i stop learning then i have probably left this earth......
Oh, BTW, Fox Sports isn't the only national syndicator that is taking a look at Andy.....

I wonder how uncomfortable it was for him to be there at WLW? My impression was that he was popular with the local folks but screwed by the big guys at what was then the CC Mays family brass. He gets mentioned now on Cunningham's show and even calls in from time to time.

Perhaps Parks had a big hand in it but I am not sure of that. I see him around here and there and would love to ask him but never felt right about bugging him when he and his wife are having a drink and a bite to eat.

Now that the Mays family is out and Bain is in, maybe the bad feelings are gone?

Again I have all the answers...I know the story -- I think -- with Furman.

First, if you remember, he did a tryout with a CC all-sports station in Houston FROM Kenwood back in November...I understand through various friends that Furman has always maintained: Parks never fired him; CC corporate did the damage and did it through his attorney....and if you remember, the Enquirer did a little piece around Xmas time that he was terminated "without cause."..his termination obviously had nothing to do with Bengals, Mike Brown, players or CC in Kenwood..in fact, Kiesewetter's blog mentioned that Parks was instrumental in Furman's Fix gig...and Parks set-up the studio to permit him to broadcats for the Fox deal as well as the Houston deal.

I have believed that it was not Parks because up to the firing, the station was promoting the flap with T.J. and that would not have been done without the PD's blessing, a blessing given with a belief that would help with the controversies that promote ratings.

CC grabbed the "racist" angle as a vehicle to implement a budget cut.

I suppose Sports Talk is still a money maker, it has never been as good since then. Lance is bush league but is on at the right time and with the right flamethrower to have the appearance of success.

I can not imagine a real pro like Parks thinks he has a better 7 p.m. host than he did in the Furman era.

Knowing how CC is and all, why would someone go back?

Why go back?

I guess like it or not WLW is the big dog locally plus I gather Furman still has many friends there.

That being said, the old literary cliche might apply that you can't go home again.

I gather Andy is building a new career with other options so perhaps your point is well taken.

Andy is in an enviable position as everyone there at the station and the ownership really likes him. They are all fans.

Perhaps Real Talk can make some in-roads -- not big ones -- but abit when McConnell and Cunningham shove off to Chicago. Real Talk needs promotion. Their lineup ins't bad, but need I say no one -- or not many people -- even know the station exists. Sure they have billboards...thery need TV ads...they need promotion. I even "heard" they are looking for salespeople, but aren't paying -- what? Yeah, 100% commission, and use your own car and gas to sell. Really? In 2010? No way.

If they could add one more local show, any kind -- man or woman host or both -- they could make a run at some numbers. Just a thought. The territory seems to be open now.

P.S. And now for the downer: Kiesewetter's blog has a post that Furman has been contacted by CC. Also, we read Furman hosted Stephen A. Smith on FSR last week. If Real Talk loses Furman, that may be worse than Cunningham and McConnell bolting the so-called Big One.

In a perfect world, perhaps CC should take Furman back -- the p.r. would be tremendous, and yes it would bury 1160 and their sponsors.

I think Furman can do more than sports and I have had the impression for years that he would like to do something more than sports.

There was some TV for Furman.

Billboards are still the best. Folks drive around, see the board, tune in the station.

They see TV/or print and forget to try it out when in the car.....

Andy is not stuck just doing sports, BTW.....

Heres an idea---How about RealTalk 1160 airing McConnell's "farewell show" or the "Furman Factor" having Mikey boy as an upcoming guest?

I think that would be fun. I wonder what sort of relationship Andy has with Mike?

Well, we'll just throw that into the suggestion box.

Great idea!

I'm sure it would violate McConnell's contract to appear on another commercial radio station. As he said the other day on Kiese's chat, WLW still owes him a couple of checks. hehehe

I've written and read plenty of contracts in my day but I have never read one in the entertainment industry so I don't have a solid idea about the various prohibitions.

It strikes me as odd that he could not be on radio as an upaid news subject as opposed to a paid performer, but as I said, I never read the applicable clauses.

Well, the only current, even remotely comparable situation is up in Cleveland/Akron... James Traficant can't do his own radio show (he's running for Congress again, and there's that "equal time" thing...). But he's NOT prohibited from appearing on news/talk stations there as an unpaid guest.

I realize this is a stretch and a half - but think about this: He did WXIX-TV as an unpaid interview. One has to realize that situation isn't much, if any, different from him appearing, say, on WQRT. Now, I'll give you that WXIX is CC's current radio news/weather partner. You would think that'd have strained things a bit between WXIX and WLW if he wasn't supposed to do that interview...and maybe it has and we're not picking up on it.

My point is, had he been prohibited from appearing on commercial radio, I'd think CC-Cincy would have taken it one step further and banned him from doing an appearance on WXIX, too so as to not make WLW look bad.

Interesting about Illinois. I only really know the Ohio situation in detail.

More and more state courts have clamped down on how far you can go to make one valid and enforceable.

Most are still valid as long as your really rife in on the prohibitions. It really takes some tailor made, careful draftsmanship today.

Public policy increasingly favors the right to work over an employer's right to protect its market position.

I wonder what Willie's or McConnell's contract specifies about what state law applies? Most contracts will specify which state law governs in case of a dispute. In their case, Ohio or Texas maybe?
