I hope you don't mind me resurrecting what was a very long-winded thread to begin with, but I just had to weigh in.
After reading page after page of hype on this board about Furman's show, I saw a commercial for the station on late night (WKRP) a couple of weeks ago. A terrible commercial, but that's besides the point. I finally tuned in to hear what all the crowing is about.
Overall, Furman seems like he still has it when he wants to. I have heard a couple of good guests and he makes some great points about our teams. In that regard he is well ahead of the clowns at 700 and 1530 (which isn't saying much).
Unfortunately, all of this is weighed down by extended interviews about low-profile teams and also-ran sports. The first night I tuned in I was treated to boring, awkward banter with some college kid who sounded like a friend of Furman's. They spent 30 minutes talking to him about taking online classes. Why would anyone care to hear about this? There goes your AQH.
Add on top of this a very thick layer of poor production values: uncomfortably long periods of dead air in and out of breaks, and some commercials starting on top of the ends of others.
As for the station as a whole, why make listeners commit to sitting through a 4 minute break if 3 of those minutes are YOUR OWN SPOTS?? And that morning show is a train wreck worthy of its own thread.
I hope if anyone at the station reads this they'll take some of it to heart because all of this is fixable. In the meantime, Furman is being wasted on a broken station pulling in a 0.1%
