Maybe the listening public will feel warm and fuzzy about getting the "power" to make decisions on "your" rock station (which is taught in Radio Consultancy 101... (you+your)), but anyone in the business knows that this is a long and drawn out process to make any sort of changes at any radio station. The BlitRock has the advantage of being a small station, and yet they haven't shown that kind of agility to make changes any faster than a Clear Channel or Emmis.
Personally, I think there should be a write-in vote for what to call 99.7. As a listener, if I want to call it:
99.7 - The Block
or
99.7 - The Ritz
Then go for it.
I would go for The Block, in honor of the brick that is tied to the station's feet that is drowning them in the Scioto River. Understanding this from inside the industry, I see a desperate station that is trying anything to survive the Mnick Machete.
Yes, the B.S. staff verbal high-fives were canned, but I can't get over the fact that of all of the changes that they could _possibly_ make, what do they do?
...they end up rehashing the same old station bits: Local Stuff, Choose it or Lose It... Not 1 new idea in the bunch. At least steal something from a station in God awful Souix Falls or Billings, Montana and call it your own. If you're keeping score, it's geriatric DJ's-1 / Creativity-0. They're throwing 15 year old 99.7 Rock hard (pun intended) crap against the wall to see if it will stick. The thuds you're hearing are the turds hitting the floor and landing next to the latest ratings. You're telling me that after Fish's own radiotraks.com consulting company tanked his own station, they're going to keep going at it? Wow.
Change the name, pretend that you're giving the power to the people... It's still not going to change much at 99.7 The Block as long as the same tired people are in the same positions that they've been in for so many years. I agree completely with the post that stated that they should be going after _potential_ audience, rather than the existing listeners.
Good luck!
