WRXP Ratings / PPM

who have they influenced? The Jonas Brothers? Bands like Boston are part of the formula; Boston fans are listening to them on their ipods
they have no interest in radio, and I don't think that Boston has any contemprary legacy,if they do, please clue me in

Scary to think that Boston & The Jonas Brothers have sold more records in America than the NY Dolls, Patti Smith, Morrissey and dare I say the Psychotic Frogs COMBINED. Im not saying if thats good or bad....but it is a fact.

And the magic of the iPod age is, all those artists now exist on an even plane. Just because Boston and Jonas have more "hits" doesn't mean that NYD/PS/Morrissey are contemptuously shoved to the back of the bus and out of our view because "nobody" is interested in them. And the flattened plane works both ways; even Boston and Jonas aren't as obnoxious as they were/would have been a generation ago.

Believe it or not, the apparent programming incoherence of newfangled concoctions like RXP and Jack-FM hinge upon a reality out there: music consumers aren't as "reactive" as they used to be, whether it involves something too "rock", too "rap", too wimpy, or too unfamiliar. (Just consider what a lot of supermarket Muzak consists of these days.) However, the key to the failure of such radio is in how it pretends this "post-reactivity" can be adapted to the traditional radio sphere, when in fact it marks a step beyond. The result is that such stations come across as inept or confused Johnny-come-latelies...

Arrogance in tandem with incompetence make a dangerously rancid brew, and with that being the case, the team at RXP (Fram, SBR, the marketing moron, Schock, the VP/GM, etc. etc.) are pretty darn toxic.

They idiotically bought into the myth that rock stations score highly with PPM, and they figured that all they had to do was hang out a "WE'RE THE NEW YORK ROCK EXPERIENCE!" shingle and that listeners would clamor to get on board.

What they failed to realize was that it's not rock stations that score high with PPM, it's that SMART, WELL-RUN, MARKET-APPROPRIATE, AND STRATEGICALLY SOUND ROCK STATIONS THAT ATTRACT LISTENERS WHO ENJOY GREAT MUSIC THAT HAPPENS TO BE ROCK - NOT JUST LISTENERS WHO ENJOY HIP, EDGY, COOL ROCK - SCORE HIGH WITH PPM.

Perhaps they'll have this realization one day, but given the wretched piss poorness of every aspect of their efforts, ideas, and execution, probably not.

Inevitably, Emmis will have to sell WRXP, simply to band-aid their cash flow crisis. Only then will you see the station improve.

Will the "New York Rock Experience" even make it to its one-year anniversary?
