Unfortunately, that's something you see in all business, not just television. Ambitious sales and marketing people pitch seemingly brilliant ideas to ambitious executives, and the technical people who are actually charged with making it happen are either a) not consulted, b) pressured into going along lest they appear to be less than a team player, or worse, a naysayer, or c) not given adequate time or budget to fully implement the idea.
It's quite a feather in the cap for a sales person to pitch a completely customizable product to a potential client, and it's another feather for a person to be in charge of such an innovative company that offers that product, but as they say, the devil is in the details.
