Anybody can create a Facebook fan page, so I wouldn't consider it to be a legitimate venue for responding to customer complaints. Who's to say that anyone at RTV even looks at that page?

Why not ask RTV that? They have a link to their Facebook site on their website:

http://www.myretrotv.com/

Its theirs, trust me

Obviously it's quite difficult to create and operate and OTA network, so I would hush on the criticism until anyone can do better. RTN gives us more viewing choices, even if it's rather unstable and sometimes unwatchable, but sometimes it IS watchable and that's better than static!

Actually its not all that difficult. True it costs money, more money than I'll make in 10 years, but... I've built 6 networks (Speed, Versus, Discovery Times, Learning, PBS Business, Sino/NBC Olympics) and maintained over 20. It's not a huge mystery. But, it takes competence and at times good old fashioned hard work. And 10 years later, its even easier, 3 or 4 off the shelf PCs could do it. 2 channels of Sino/NBC Olympics was done with 3 servers, 4 Mac G6's, 4 PCs and a router.

RTV's problem is they are spreading too thin. Custom streams for every affiliate? There is no way you can expect any kind of quality out of just one operator, who has no buttons to press to save the day. E-V-E-R-Y real network has one or two streams and it is what it is, take it or leave it. The rule of thumb is, one operator for every 4 streams, RTV has over 40.

That never made any sense to me either. Why would they need custom programming for every affiliate? It just creates more work. Just have one national feed with and rotate the programming every few months to keep things fresh.

Unfortunately, that's something you see in all business, not just television. Ambitious sales and marketing people pitch seemingly brilliant ideas to ambitious executives, and the technical people who are actually charged with making it happen are either a) not consulted, b) pressured into going along lest they appear to be less than a team player, or worse, a naysayer, or c) not given adequate time or budget to fully implement the idea.

It's quite a feather in the cap for a sales person to pitch a completely customizable product to a potential client, and it's another feather for a person to be in charge of such an innovative company that offers that product, but as they say, the devil is in the details.

And so it goes...

The plug has been pulled! Its a real shame that it didnt workout.Well!! unless RTV finds another station for this area ill need to Rely on HULU for my oldie classics fix.

In this case, they are trying to please all of the people all of the time. Remember this network is intended to be on a digital subchannel, where 1) a station has no equipment to do IDs and spot playback 2) no one cares really

When you put it on a main channel, in the #1 market, with someone who already runs a tight ship... the shortcomings become glaringly obvious.

Are the Boston and L.A. affiliates going to keep RTV on?

It's a shame it didn't work out, especially since I actually went through the effort to put up an outdoor antenna to pick up the station (the only one I can pick up over the air due to the fact I'm surrounded by hills). I can understand the technical challenges that Ron speaks of, but I can't figure out why RTV wouldn't just program maybe one or two streams and just do something remotely. I've seen it done where netcues can fire remote spot programming stored on a digital streamer at a station and that way they could sell custom ads and content for each station without having to run a multitude of different streams.

Well, it was sort of nice while it lasted.

To those who may not be able to get RTV but want too i may have an answer.I found one of RTVs network stations on Live TV streaming!the station is WKFK from Miss USA.I looked at Titans tv listings for that station WKFK-LD1 and the programming seeems to be matching up.RTV on this station looks to be on in the mourming till early afternoon and on evenings and night on the weekends.Sound quality dosnt seem that great and full screen is abit blurry, but if you want to watch RTV here is a choice. Here is a link http://www.viewmy.tv/#viewmytv. Search for WKFK if it dosnt start with that station.

I checked around 10:30pm tonight and they are airing ION programming (I saw the ION bug in the bottom corner of the screen).

Apparently, WKFK's main signal carries Ion during the evening hours, with RTV during other hours on weekdays, and America One on Saturdays, along with local programming.

WKFK apparently carries RTN and Ion on their own subchannels, which, I take it, aren't available online.

here the program guide for WKFK which is current and shows the RTV programing. The live streaming is done on the 7.1 sub channel. http://titantvguide.titantv.com/apg/basic.aspx?siteid=2088

Dont be too dissapointed when it goes away, they are not cleared rights wise to broadcast that on the internet. Thats why you don't see more stations streaming live, only their own content (news and the like).

Now that it's been posted to Facebook, I'd be surprised if they havent gotten a cease-and-desist already.

Guess i should of kept my mouth shut!Didnt know it wasnt allowed.I really think that in time TV as we know it now will be a thing of the past and All electronic media will be incorporated into the web.PS i really hope the fcc or who ever is in charge lets the streaming continue.Streaming is increasing!Comcast just signed a big deal with HBO and others to stream programs. http://newteevee.com/2009/07/13/hbo-and-cinemax-going-online-with-comcast/

Hold your applause -- I think the service is available only to Comcast subscribers who subscribe to HBO and Cinemax, and only in selected areas only.

Probably so, why would HBO give away content they can make you pay for. Hulu paid for the content they have, or its so old its not longer a viable revenue stream.

But yes, streaming is happening, its growing. Hulu, the networks, even YouTube offers streamed movies. But they are all cleared rights wise.

Ron! Looks like you may of of been right! That TV station that was live streaming 24/7 including RTV has been silent (no streaming since sat mourning or they are having some tech problems.Oh well looks like its back to HULU again for me and the oldies.
