WSBA-York Revolution

All this talk about who would be best to do the broadcasts for York Revolution baseball....realistically, I'm sure the folks who are running the team have people in mind that they would like to bring in to do the gig. I agree that it will at least start as a one-person booth, and then depending on the reaction, could turn into a two-person booth down the road.

Ideally, I'd love to see the York Revolution open it up for auditions, stipulating that you must have broadcast experience (not necessarily in PBP) and submit a tape of one inning of PBP. At least it would narrow the candidates down....normally the broadcasters are hired by the team, not necessarily by the station.

After all, the PA announcers get to audition, why not the PBP guys?? But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong ;)

"After all, the PA announcers get to audition, why not the PBP guys?"

Finally!!! Someone with a plan. There may be hope. Let me get this straight: instead of giving the job outright to Curt Hart who is obviously the history of the world's best baseball broadcaster ever....we actaully hold an audition. But, is it a formality on the road to putting a crown on Curt's head, or is it a real audition. Here, let me write the response I fully expect from the kids living in their moms' attics crowd: "Formality or not, Curt Hart is the answer. Put him up against 500 audution tapes and he'll come out on top." That would be laughable if it weren't so sad. Here's the real truth: "Put Curt Hart up against even one other audition tape and he will be on the bottom." As for what Curt ever did to me, let's put it this way: If you think he's some warm-hearted, funny, respectful, caring, lovable individuall....think again. Central P-A put up with him once....we don't need it again. The York Revolution doesn't need that. They need someone with a real energy for his job and the Revolutiuon organization. With Curt it's all about Curt.....and all about how Curt put York baseball back on the map and all about how Curt made the first season so sonderful. ENOUGH ENOUGH! ENOUGH! It would a catastrophic mistake for the York Revolution managemnt make him their broadcast centerpiece. Get over it. HE IS NOT HE ANSWER. He's done in Central P-A and it's over. I don't care how often he comes back to WSBA to "visit." Let him visit 50 times if he wants to. His campaigning to get his "in" back in Central P-A won't work.

my 2-cents: i agree with jockstar....

although most people who leave wsba/warm/wsox tend not to be gone too long...

despite my having run ins with curt....i do wish him luck in finding another gig....

just not at wsba...

by the way....holding on air auditions is an excellent promotional idea...

There are a couple of things several people on this chat site are forgetting: the $$$ offered and the experience of the individual. First, as a former sports man I don't agree with the idea of opening the auditions to everyone, including DJs. It won't work. Baseball is the slowest game to call. Therefore, this person had better keep the game moving along with some funny stories and tidbits. It is an intricate game. If this person has little or no knowledge of the game and how it works, this will surface on the air. That's not a great place for ignorace to rear its ugly head. Dials will turn elsewhere!

If the money isn't there for the person, then as the saying goes "you get what you pay for." Seeing that WSBA has dumped the Orioles in favor of the York Revolution, I should think that management would want to put its best foot forward, that being the announcer.

Play ball! ;)
