WSBK takes over MyNetworkTV affiliation in Boston

well you knew this would happen at some point!! wsbk my net though would be good cbs could run it better and make it my 38!! but mr block head goes!!

But what will WBIN air in it's place? Are they not just swapping out a "programing service" with hit off net shows with off-net syndicated shows?

well such is the case with wsbk what would happen to there shows??? maybe wbin would pick up some of wsbk's nightly programming!!

Broadcasting & Cable reports that WSBK's affiliation with MyNet is "hardly a done deal..."

Another keyword in B&C's report is "potential".

Do we know it would replace programming on 38.1? What about creating and putting it on 38.2?

You mean The Insider and Entertainment Tonight?

Somehow, I doubt it.

CBS's policy is also to not have any subchannels on their stations to ensure maximum picture quality.

Even if they O&Os were transmitting at 1080 (which they are not, they are at 720)- there would be room for one SD sub-channel without cutting picture quality.

There was a rumor (STRESS - RUMOR) going around that CBS was going to take some of the shows from their library and start their own sub-channel service. However, the leasing of shows to MeTV proved that rumor false - for now anyway,

CBS is 1080i, as is NBC. It's Fox and ABC that are 720p.

*Any* new program streams reduce picture quality on the existing streams. However, the loss in quality may not be visible to most viewers and on most programming.

A DTV station gets a single 19.2MBps pipe, which must be split among all streams. Even if they use the whole 19.2M for a single HD stream, that's not enough to transmit it without compression. To transmit additional streams, you have to use some of that 19.2M, which means you have to further compress the first stream.

Again, chances are most viewers won't notice if you're careful & don't go too far. (and I agree that one 1080i or 720p HD and one 480i SD works very well.)

That sounds horrible. Leave WSBK the way it is. TV38 is a highly recognized name in Boston and is one identity that is still around which isn't cookie-cutter. If MyNetworkTV gets ahold of WSBK, they will make it just like every other cookie-cutter affiliate of MyNetworkTV. Just a "my" logo with 38 inserted. Hope this doesn't happen.

Entertainment Tonight is already on WMUR. Somehow I doubt CBS Domestic Television would move ET off from WMUR since it is a stronger station.

I'm not sure why some believe the branding would change. There are plenty of MyNet affils that do not use the "My" branding.

Of course it was upn 38 from 95 til 06 and it's not an independant tv station it's owned by a media conglomerate cbs/viacom who also own wbz tv creating the dreaded duopoly.

i dont think the change will even happen till fall!! too many moving parts

The affiliation might not happen till then but the imaing would happen right away, as CBS would have to start promoting and informing viewers about the change.

MNTV would be a good thing for TV38 and MNTV.
The question is, how long will there be an MNTV? They don't seem to be having the momentum that CW has. And that's not saying much.

And MyNet is 720p.

With 1080i, you can get down to 13mpbs without the average person noticing it.
