WTZN: Change Coming Friday

For those of you who follow ratings, our WLER (AllHitz 97.7) scored the highest ratings we've ever had by scoring just a point below 93.7. That might not sound like a lot, but we do NOT market ourselves as a Pittsburgh station (though we do have a Pittsburgh request line), and we're only 4,000 watts. For a suburban station operating as such, to do that well is a landmark moment for us. We don't sell according to ratings, but it's a feather in our cap as far as picking up some agency bucks.

I told you before I found your station by accident and we have the station programmed on our radios now. Its a good station Ken and you should be proud you did so well in the last book. Its just not my cup of tea, but it is refreshing to have a station like yours in Butler Co. with the hometown feel to it.

Have you really listened to the weekend/partime staff of KISS?

They are not fresh. They are boring, self-centered drones who would not know dynamic radio if it hit them in the face. Most of them are voicetracked. They do not know how to interact with listeners.

B94 would be better off hiring OUTSIDE fresh and young talent who are truly talented.

The impending format change for WTZN made me think of what I would like a radio station to do in a perfect world. (Therefore, this will never happen). If they decide on a music format, I suggest a deep tracks station. Do not play "Michelle" from "Rubber Soul", play "If I Needed Someone". Do not play "Would'nt it be Nice" from "Pet Sounds", play "Caroline No". I could go on and on with examples of what I mean but I think you get the idea. "Zoso" is a great album full of great songs, but "Stairway to Heaven", "Black Dog" and "Rock and Roll" is all we have heard for years and years.
Secondly, if a music format is chosen, please do not play the same songs over and over. We have WKST (96.1) to do that. With the deep tracks format, there would be so many songs to play that there would be no need to emulate KISS and their rotation of 15 songs.

From one sucks to another, I like this idea very much.

Thank you to WJPA and WLSW for doing this (well, to a point). If I was further north, WLER would be on my presets as well.

With the success you're having, I would hope that more people would program stations on their gut than on what consultants say.

A general who leads troops into battle with what a textbook tells him instead of his gut winds up with dead troops.

Why radio execs would feel differently, I don't know.

WLER is a good station with local appeal, however, I get a headache from the cheesy sound effect they have between their news stories they read in the morning. Sorry, Ken but it gives me a headache! LOL.

And as I said before, if WTZN keeps a local Pittsburgh appeal (something that Kiss doesnt have) then they will do well including new hosts and a competitive playlist.

I heard a couple years ago that Kiss desperately needed part-timers, so they were using promotions people and the like who had no on-air experience.

I agree, had the station on just before noon and heard that cheesy sound effects between the stories too and thought it was awful. Tonight we were coming back from celebrating my wife's birthday and heard Ken Hawk on the radio. Sounded like a seasoned veteran ;D

Someone on the WTZN board said they were listening to star 100.7 this morning and they heard Bubba saying he was going back to B 94. Could anyone confirm if this is true? I didn't listen to star this morning so I don't know.

Seasoned veteran? Nah...I just fake it pretty good! :D

But thanks to you all for the compliments. Really. I'll talk to our news director about the 'whooshes' we have between the news stories. If it's any consolation, I air only three news headlines in the afternoon, thus there's only three of them! We air more in the morning!

Supposedly that's the rumor, see my other post under resurrecting B94 jocks.

Thanks Ken, whew. I only watch KDKA-TV news, so don't know if the other tv stations do this, but where I lived most of my life in EPA, there's a tv station called WGAL-TV 8, and whenever they're doing the weather forecast, they play some stupid jingle right when they are starting to give the 5 day forecast. Thats what that cheesy sound effect reminded me of. Good job tonight Ken. ;D

B94 was the station that made me want to be a radio jock! I loved it! I remember driving from J-town to Pittsburgh when summer break would be over and I'd head back to Pitt, I just couldn't wait to get to the top of Ligonier mountain so I could get B94! Even though I don't live in the 'burgh anymore and I got out of radio a while back, I am still excited to see what happens with this!

HECK IM EXCITED TO SEE WHAT THE RADIO-INFO GOLD CLUB MEMBERS SAY NEXT! ALL THIS EXCITEMENT'S MAKIN ME SWEAT! BTW PURPLE--I FEEL YA ON YOUR COMMENT!

i m h o..........

it's B-94...OR B 93 whatever...or some incarnation of the old "B".......and......it's an adult a/c.....maybe some of the old jocks ( recycled from within pburgh cluster) AND.....some new ones........

then they will adjust star acccordingly.....so the compliment each other sted compete with each other.......

HOWEVER, again i.m.h.o. the FM side does not win over all until the current ops mgr is urged on.......to another position....somehwere ELSE.....

Damn Postmaster General! I can't even come back for a steeler game? Geez..I mean since you do live in Alabama I'll try not to run into you on sunday At Heinz! ;)

You guys are mean! I only ever heard Adam once on a trip back home and I thought he sounded pretty good.

I've heard worse in BIGGER markets!
