Y101 Cape Cod?

When I was on Pixy 103's new site I found a link to 93.5 Frank FM and Y101 that must be the new format for 101.1 WHYA. I clicked on both links but they were not working. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will see the links to the other sites. The only site that is up is Pixy 103.

It looks like WHYA's new format will be coming in 2013, I made a prediction on my other topic that once the studios were finished the station would flip their format, but this format change is probably going to happen once they move WHYA's transmitter location from Mashpee to Hyannis, but until they move the transmitter to Hyannis it will probably remain as 93.5 Frank FM's simulcast station.

Only Pixy 103 and 93.5 Frank FM's live feeds are up, and Frank FM and Y101's links are still redirecting to Pixy 103's site. I bet we'll see both sites up and running by a week to two. I'm very excited to see what WHYA's new format is going to be. :)

Power, Nova, and Mike over several days' time :D

It been four years since the Cape and Islands had a CHR formatted station, since WRZE became a full time affiliate station for WEEI, but the wait is over, 101.1 WHYA will soon break its simulcast with WFRQ, and become Y101. I don't think they have released a date for when WHYA but we can expect that it will happen very soon. John Garabedian is even going to host the Open House Party on the station. :)

Here's WHYA's wikiapedia page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WHYA

On 93.5 Frank FMs Facebook page their beginning to tell everyone who listens to 101.1 to reset their preset for 93.5. The simulcast is coming to an end probably over the weekend or maybe Monday.

Yeah, I think it will be a little bit familiar to Hot 96.9, but I think their format is going to be CHR, maybe they'll play some Hip Hop and Rhythmic AC music on the station possibly. ''The Beat of Cape Cod'' slogan does sound like something you would hear on a Hip Hop or CHR station.

I think the slogan's just a John thing. Once upon a time he brought the world "V66, The Beat of Boston," and now he and Steve are bringing you "Y101, The Beat of Cape Cod."

Expect high energy CHR similar to the heyday of 96.3 The Rose (Another Steve Solomon production.)

Oh Yeah, that was the slogan for V66, isn't that funny. I think we will see more of a CHR format also, it will be very exciting when they launch the station, I wonder what the first song will be?

Finally! The Cape was in need of a chr station. Who will the djs be or will it just be music?

WHYA's wikipedia page was made public briefly until it got taken down due to media copyright holders, but it did say their were going to be DJ's and not an automation. It's been so long since we've had a local CHR station on the cape, since WRZE became WEII, we were left with WCOD, which plays more Hot AC (90's, 00's Mix) then actual CHR. John Garabedian's going to host Open House Party on the station, but I forgot what the other shows were.

So if you live on the Upper Cape, and even into certain parts of the Mid-Cape, you can hear Kiss 108, AMP, Fun 107, Pro-FM, WCOD, MIX and JAMN....all of which already play some version of CHR music (although they aren't all techincally CHR stations). I haven't lived on the Cape in years, but from memory Hot 96.9 also comes in at least on the Upper Cape. I guess to people on the Outer Cape a CHR station is filling a void, but everyone else already has more options than ever. Is anyone actually sitting through commericals when you have 4 other stations playing CHR music, and 4 others playing music that at least appeals to most CHR listeners even if it isn't straight up CHR? Whats the value to the advertisers then?

I hope the station does well, but with that much competition for CHR, and an older demographic on Cape Cod that limits that CHR audience, its a tough hill to climb. Then again, CHR stations are doing well both nationally and locally so maybe there is enough of the pie to go around for them.

Bring back Johnny Boobaka!
