You could call me a 9--4--5 freak Pt. 1

Thank you Jaddy, we will be great friends. I wish there was a better Rhythmic CHR here in the Dayton area because Hot 102-9 is practically urban. I don't understand why 9--4--5 doesn't bring The Beat back or why they left it in the first place! Here's a good idea! Wild 9--4--5!

To PUBLIC ENEMY:

I never said that the Beat didn't sound good, all I said is that it never won. It never "beat" Z-93 nor U-92 in any book. That is the "TRUTH"! Just like Luda said, "Open your eyes". When you do open them, you'll see that I am not attcking the idea, but rather the simple fact that it never ever ever ever won. I am all for the Rhythmic side of things, infact I wish 945 was as dope as it could be. It's not sounding to bad however right now. I bet that they are setting things up for something pretty big. But the 12+ numbers, persons 18-34, females 12-24, and the rest of the arbitron matters in this business. If it didn't the Beat may still be around today. From what I have gathered, the Beat was poorly ran, and it caused more trouble than it did revenue. Who knows, maybe someday we can all have our wish, but right now the "beat" is beat!!!

Looks like GTZ had better P1 trends than DKF. Of course this is only 12+, but GTZ moved up in the trends while DKF took a step backwards.

Yes they did take a step back, huh! It's probably because they restructured things there again. If DKF would just stay put on one thing, then they'd be fine. They had 2 straight up-trends, and then flopped. Morning show has got to go, they are keeping them down majorly.

Its really sad to see a station with potential do that. But Clear Channel is infamous for its (if were not the top dogs, lets flip it til its right).

Stick to what you are going to do, spend money in branding and over sized promotions and do some market research. Listeners know what they want in the market, not the VP's.

Of course, another issue is Rhythmics have a REALLY REALLY hard time making money. While stations like HOT in Lex and WILD in Lima, and even CHANNEL in Dayton do okay in the ratings, they sell spots at $5 a pop. You cant make money doing this. You need to be charging (In small rated markets - $40 to $60) a commercial. Doesnt matter if your #1 in your market, if you play offensive textured music, you dont get they bucks.

Awesome point on the $$$. That's what it's all about in the end anyways. Sad, but true. That hints the reason why 94.5 The Beat is no longer around, it generated no revenue. I'm glad someone else sees the very sad and big picture. I wish it wasn't like that, but it is.

It really is sad, but you know too....thats just why the Beat never stuck. As well, im surprised Cumulus has kept LTO for so long.

In the end, Channel is a good station, but so is Z. Will 2 Top 40 stations survive? Doubtful, but if anyone goes, it will be Channel when they sell the two stations off. If of course they choose that station.

But honestly, why sell off a station that only pumps 6,000watts? I think it will be Lite99 & Smooth Jazz. Both of those have huge sticks. Besides, it seems as if Channel is a flanker station for MIX 107.7 anyways. Keeps Z from going full blown at them. CC needs Channel in alot of ways.

True.

CC owns in Dayton FM's

WDKF CHR/Rhythmic
WLQT Adult Contemporary
WMMX Hot Adult Contemporary
WXEG Active Rock
WTUE Classic Rock
WDSJ Smooth Jazz
WONE Sports
WIZE Sports

They are required to sell off 2 signals. The 2 that make the least amount of money are

WDKF/WDSJ

In Cleveland Ohio, they own

WTAM News/Talk
WGAR Country
WMVX Hot Adult Contemporary
WMMS Rock
WMJI Oldies
WAKS Top 40

Here they must sell one signal, the most likely signal is WAKS only because of its location. WAKS could be picked up by Rubber City and turned into an Akron-Cleveland station.

Then in Columbus they must sell an FM signal

WNCI Top 40
WCOL Country
WTVN News/Talk
WLZT Adult Contemporary
WBWR Classic Hits
WMRN ???????????
WYTS Conservative Talk

I would say the easy sell will be WBWR or just not move WMRN at all.

But then again, this is Clear Channel...who knows what will happen.

Last I heard about their statewide selloff, there are 3 companies going to gobble it all up. I heard Saga and Elyria Lorain, but does anyone know who the third company is?

i said this before and i'll say it again.. i would not be a bit suprised if cc sells off the 103.9 frequency and moves the "x" to 94.5 with the improved signal. the fact that cc hasn't named a pd for wdkf is a good sign that it will be sold

btw, does anyone know when the deadline is for cc to sell?

Is the new 94.5 that much better? Down here in Fairfield, they were both always pretty comparable. Now, 94.5 no longer exists due to WNKU's translator.

Down here, 103.9 gets a lot of interference in the car from WRBI. I still get it perfectly at home. I hope they don't flip!

I don't know. Anything's possible. I'm betting my money on 9--4--5 or 103-9. But if 9--4--5 does flip then it will stay within its format. It hasn't gone anything outside the Top 40 genre.

lovejamminoldies: I wish that it wouldnt flip. Channel is a good station. It really depends on the buyer. The only way WDKF wont flip is if Radio One makes a bid, yet that will involve a major shuffle of stations.

If a new player comes to town, I would look for some kind of shuffle to still be involved or some kind of Modern AC wouldnt be out of the realm of possibility. Like a Fresh FM or Triple A.

My thought is...

Clear Channel keeps: WMMX, WLQT, WTUE, WXEG, WIZE, WONE

Radio One BECOMES: WDHT, WROU @ 94.5, WING, WDSJ

Cox Communications BECOMES: WHKO, WHIO, WHIO @ 92.1, WGTZ, WZLR

Town and Country picks up: WKSW

Just my thoughts

Yeah but if WDKF goes to Radio One then it won't be Rhythmic CHR because of WDHT. Oh well, I guess there really won't be a true Rhythmic CHR because 102.9 might as well be Urban.

:eek: :eek: ::)

Has a thread ever been more ridiculous??

Push comes to shove, you can't make much money off of WDKF anyways. Why sell? Why did CC hire Mark Anderson to brand manage if they weren't going to keep it? Why not use Drake as much as they can for as cheap as they can, not name a PD to save money, and save money all while flanking for MIX? Sell off Lite and Smooth, and call it a day. In the long run that would save them the most money when it comes to meeting budgets.

Wow.

So, let me get this straight: you can't make much money from a small-stick station, so you want to keep it; you think they should dump the big-stick, excellent-qualitatives, massively-profitable, number one station in town, instead. You think it's better to save some thousands in expenses than to have many millions in revenue.

Okay.

"Lose the keeper, keep the loser." Just wanted to see if I had that straight.

Wow.

Like I said, there's never been a more ridiculous bunch of posts. Can't there be some rule limiting fanboys posting ridiculous stuff and making the rest of us have to wade through it? You kids should stop posting and start listening. Instead of constantly offering your "all stations need to be rhythmic" opinions, ask some questions and then wait for the answers.
