With Columbus, you're talking about one of the worst FM signals in the market, and one of the worst music mixes I ever heard in my life. It's like they grabbed somebody's bad CD collection and played it on shuffle. And, you also have to remember...that group is locally owned, locally operated. They jumped into "Jack" very early to preempt another Columbus station from doing it...before the format actually fleshed itself out. If you look into it, the successful "adult hits" stations are very well focused and, though they "seem" to be playing "anything", there's actually a method to their madness.
If you investigate, Mainline has at least one very successful Jack-style formatted station. It's called "Liberty". It's music mix is very interesting...well focused...the titles seems to fit together well, even if there's a "surprise" or two in there. At least from what I saw on the internet today.

Uh..Jammin'...you're missing something here. Let's speak hypothetically:
If a station has a 12 plus figure of, let's say 3.7...that's about a 6 to a 7 share in-demo. That's enough to put you in the top 5 in-demo. And, if you take a "big gun" or two down two or three share points at the same time, you will look golden. (Imagine if Z went, 12 plus...from a 2 to a 4.5. Mix dropped from a 7 to a 5.5. Lite went from a 6 to a 5.1. It really could turn out to be quite a battle in-demo, at least hypothetically speaking.)
Remember...it's all about demos. Not 12 plus. And, what I hear...the Richmond station has, so far, been a winner.
I understand you're not a fan of the music. But, put your "owner" hat on here.

Eaton, Dayton, & Springfield Alive! They actually recently brought that back. That convinced me they were here to stay for a good while. Guess not.

They did a research project in the tiny burg known as Hagerstown, something that market hasn't seen in ... oh ... never!
