94.7 is changing formats today

94.7 The Block. It's already on the Audacy site. A throwbacks format apparently. Or a stunt.

As soon as I heard "Jenny From the Block," it was obvious what the name was going to be.

I still remember the beginning of that song from playing it almost 20 years ago on KOQL in Mid Missouri!

25,000 songs commercial free? Holy crap.

Billing on the old station must've been truly horrendous for Audacy to commit to what will likely be two months worth of commercial free programming under the new brand.

During 2020, it was down below $200 k a month, it is reported.

Ouch. Hate to say it, but that station deserved it's fate. It clearly had no right to exist any longer.

Did it ever top $5 million in a single year under Cumulus?

Granted, I'm an outsider but I have to say that I like the new format so far. New York was the birthplace of hip hop so this makes a hell of a lot more sense than country. I'll be listening from Mississippi regularly!

Wouldn't shock me if the new station generates a 4 share or better in its first full ratings survey.

This is gonna draw listeners away from multiple stations in the market. Might even cannibalize New 102.7 to a minor extent.

Every year from 2013 to 2018 it billed over $5 million. Still horrible for NYC.
Last year tied in billing with WADO and WLIB.

The station's ID is still WNSH Newark.
I'm sure the application to change the calls is being filed as we type. I wouldn't have filed before hand either just to not tip off the competition (yes, they check FCC filings all the time).

The last pure country song on WNSH was "See You Again" by Carrie Underwood. It was followed by a remix of "Cruise" by Florida Georgia Line featuring Nelly, which provided the transition from country to hip hop.

Signal Signal Signal

While the initial few songs indicate more of an Hispanic target than Black, it still has a less than perfect signal in the areas it has to cover.

Every station draws from multiple other stations. The average PPM listener hears at least 5 stations in a week.

This will definitely affect the Hispanic targeted stations, whether in English or Spanish.
