94.7 is changing formats today

Yes, if it's well programmed it should be good with the right NY feel and with music from LL Cool J, Melle Mel, Mantronix etc. The real NY classic hiphop with a funky vibe. Not the bad and angry hiphop from the 90's.
I'm not sure how much of a NY vibe it will actually have. It will probably just duplicate what Audacy is doing in Chicago.

Completely unrelated, but I'm kind of sad that Audacy didn't let KITS-FM in San Fran do any kind of send-off after 35 years in the same format, but WNSH, with only what... 8 years in the format (and only two years under Audacy ownership) gets a send-off like this? It's a shame.
There was no one left at KITS to say any goodbyes. Every jock who was broadcasting at KITS was from another market. There was no point.
Interesting. I would have expected 92.3 to flip if anything.
WNYL is the center of Audacy's Alternative format, all of the decision-makers for their Alts are in NYC not to mention the nationally syndicated night shows (Kevan and Bryce). They are not going to flip it because it'll send their entire Alternative footprint into chaos. If they do go ahead and flip WNYL at some point, every Audacy Alternative's days are numbered.

I could be wrong, but from what I can gather WNSH did not nearly matter as much for Audacy's Country footprint so they were an easier choice to flip than WNYL would be.

Classic hip hop is a SMART move, if true.

That format is broad based with regard to demographics if programmed properly.

Given Hot 97's success and influence in the 90s and early 00s, such a move would be very logical.

Given the known signal challenges of 94.7, saying "we're still here, just on the HD-2" is a disservice to the country format listeners. I mean really.... if the main analog is difficult to receive to begin with, do they actually think these same people actually with an HD radio are gonna receive the HD-2? Give me a break. If they gave a rip about the current listeners they'd stick country on one of the other full market signal sub-channels. Clearly this is a "well we're trying, good luck, listen on the app".... like I can't find country somewhere else on an app. ha ha

WNYL is the center of Audacy's Alternative format,

And four of the company's national country shows are based at WNSH. Including the mid-day show, Katie & Company, the Superstar Power Hour, and the weekly countdown show, hosted by the station's MD Jesse Addy.

They could relocate them elsewhere or still produce them from NYC, but this is me speculating a bit here: I'd also say this might be a signal that Audacy's national programming efforts are taking a U-turn.

I bet some of those shows will be replaced by talent from other stations. Do the hosts work from a studio or do they phone it in from home?

94.7 The Block. It's already on the Audacy site. A throwbacks format apparently. Or a stunt.

I wonder if one of the class A signals in Jersey to the west or southwest of the apple would consider a flip to Country? WNSH always pulled strong shares in that region. Does a local country signal already serve that region?
