The other Audacy-wide add besides Muse and BMTH this week was “Chaise Longue” by Wet Leg, who is a British indie rock duo with a crazy amount of hype behind them. WNYL has begun spinning that as well. It’s another sign of how priorities have changed; WNYL and Audacy sat on Chaise Longue for months despite it having a steady increase in popularity on TikTok and other social media.
As for Muse, Alt staple or not, listen to “Won’t Stand Down” and tell me if WNYL or Audacy at large would have spun it even six months ago. Listen to the downtuned guitars and tell me that WNYL would have found it acceptable when they didn’t find softer songs by Rise Against, Foo Fighters, Offspring, and other Alt veterans acceptable. The fact that it’s Audacy-wide and that it’s more or less been confirmed that John Allers is in charge of current adds at Audacy tells the story.
