Weigel Buying W27EA-D in Cleveland/Akron

On my over-the-air, with an indoor antenna, TV I now get a black screen on Channel 35. No other new channels have appeared. I'm in Southwest Cuyahoga County. If I re-scan, what should I expect?

35.1 Story Television and the newly activated 35.12, which started running infomercials as of today.

Story Television isn't too bad, especially for people like me who never watched The History, Discovery, or Biography Channel due to the lack of cable. Yes, some of the shows are a bit dated, but still entertaining or informal to watch. Story Television has a different theme each day, consisting of a certain topic/show within that theme. What you'll see today (Tuesday) will be something different next Tuesday. It gives the network a bit of variety, but at the same time, caters to everyone who may not watch the network 24/7 and has interest in a particular theme, subject, or show.

I'm sure more people will tune into 35 once they pick up something that's worth watching, like MeTV Plus, or one of their current diginets, should it get dropped from another station. As for the infomercials on 35.12... YAWN...;)

It's sad when infomercials cannot even change with the times. Every once in a while while I'm staying overnight at a hotel and scan through the DirecTV guide (since I'm a long-time cord cutter) and I STILL see the infomercial entitled "Larry King's Special Prostate Report" airing from time to time...

...And Larry's been dead for HOW LONG now???

Weigel to change W27EA-D's calls to WOCV-CD, effective September 20.

EDIT: Forum not letting me post link, and directly pasting the link in the post shortens it, making it invalid.

Would be nice if WOCV picked up RetroTV. (I know it's probably not going to happen). A fair number of interesting odd-ball shows are run on RetroTV.

Subject of the lousy fall local T.V. schedules in another thread.

I really wish Weigel would be more open with their plans for WOCV and it's sub-channels. Not a peep and we are one week into September/"Unofficial beginning of fall".

Yes, that would be nice. There are lots of vintage odd-ball programs they could air, like this one:

The Wiere Brothers slapstick comedy show is one that I'd really like to get a DVD of. It was on CBS, and lasted less than 20 episodes.
Three Stooges Director Jules White was involved in the early stages of the show.

Yes, it would be nice to see some oddball programs...for want of a better term....Failure Theater of shows that were only on for a few weeks or whatever. However, may be a problem with people who own the show, copyright issues, family members of deceased cast/owners that don't want them released. Plus the fact someone has to pony up money to clean up the old stuff, digitize it, etc. and they're not going to do that unless they can be sure they're going to get their money back plus a little extra.

Could Weigel be setting their sights on a bigger signal in Cleveland, possibly 55 or 61? If and when 55 goes up for sale, there will probably be a bidding between Tegna, Nexstar, and Weigel.

Looks like WBNX is doing pretty good at the present time, given that they don't air any infomercials or shopping networks. That's very surprising for a station that is independently owned and operated. It would make sense for Weigel to purchase WBNX if it ever goes up for sale, given that they already carry most of their diginets, except for MeTV and Story Television.

I have the feeling that Weigel already approached WBNX about buying the station, and when WBNX declined, came to an agreement to buy W27EA-D off of Media-Com instead, who almost sold the station to HC2 Broadcasting a few years back. My guess is that Weigel intends to operate W27EA-D until WBNX does go up for sale, at which they would probably have first dibs to buy the station.

Weigel seems to be doing good as well, slowing buying stations, and in a couple of cases, signing on brand new stations.

Tegna (or whoever ends up buying them in the near future) and Nexstar wouldn't be able to own another station in the market unless they sell off the station that they currently own. The exception would be a low power station, so technically, they can own a full power and a low power station. I don't think Univision has any plans to sell off WQHS or any of their O&O stations.

It's morphed into "Classic TV"!
