Las Vegas Ed Stolz stations 104.3, 790/103.1 are going up for auction!

Ed Stolz’s stations are finally going up for auction yet again. He is a fighter! It all stemmed from Ed Stolz refusing to pay ASCAP. A trustee was appointed to get Ed Stolz to pay up. He refused to allow the trustee to take control of the stations so he went to jail for contempt of court! Yes, this guy actually WENT TO JAIL for refusing to pay ASCAP.

The stations were sold to VCY and they ran their religious programming for a few months. Then Ed Stolz filed for bankruptcy and due to the automatic stay rule, he was given his stations back. They all went silent when he got control back.

Another receiver was appointed and the judge transferred control of the stations to the new receiver. Now an auction date has been set. This should be the last time Ed Stolz has his stations up for sale. Knowing him, he is very likely to protest the sale and sue whoever buys them.

It's simple. Ed likely didn't have the money to pay ASCAP. Rather than negotiating, he chose to dig his heels in and go to jail.
Dumb choice? Sure. But some people will destroy themselves rather than accept they lost. Does this mindset sound familiar?

Does this mindset sound familiar?
Yes, somewhat.

I mentioned this somewhere else I think, but I actually volunteered for and engineered a radio program at an LPFM station over in Ukiah, CA (KMEC 105.1) for a couple years (2008-2010), and they lied about having paid ASCAP/BMI, etc. because they were protesting a rule they felt was unjust (this station had its roots as a pirate station back in the 90s and early 2000s (as I suppose many other early LPFMs did), so there was this pervasive attitude that music should be 100% free, and things like royalties and and copyrights don't matter too much). Anyway, eventually found out that if the station got fined for not getting it's proper music licenses, not only would the station itself be fined, but every person who played coppyrighted or ASCAP/BMI/etc licensed material was also fined separately (as I understood it; I'm not sure how correct this is). Needless to say, I cut all ties as soon as I could.

To this day, I still don't know if they ever actually did the right thing and get their ASCAP licensed, but they are still on the air, so maybe they did? Out of fairness, they did, at least, have a proper LPFM license from the FCC (they were among the first wave of pioneer LPFM stations, I think).

Anyway, I don't know much about the radio business, but from what little I've read here about this Ed Stolz character, he sounds like a litigious, deceitful creep who deserves every bad thing that comes his way.

I wonder what benefit (if any) does AutoPilotFM get from that AM & FM translator combo? The translator has a CP for a 180 watt signal at a higher location. But as it is now this would be a stand alone operation and how profitable could a 180 watt FM signal be on its own? Also the Albuquerque stations rely pretty much entirely on local businesses for advertising and the KFRH stream is playing "187 hours of pure hip-hop" so they only play commercials every 8 days? Who is buying time there if no national chains support them? It seems that the best option would be to complete the translator CP and then try to sell it for a larger amount than the $150k paid for putting aside any possible legal challenges from the current owner. Question is would iHeart or any of the other main commercial operators in the area be interested?

There was a religious operator interested in it but not for 150k

So,
what's the damages as every grandpa said when picking up the check...

the auction_ is it simply what ever is retrieved from an auction
( I'm envisioning the mc saying a price and someone waving the paddle), and after that _ what would one estimate for the lawsuit to be settled by the way of a check

" .... asking for a friend "

I'm using radio locator
and seeing 104.7
but not 104.3
104.3 was dark for awhile due to non-payment of Mt Potosi tower rent. They are supposed to be resuming operations from their auxiliary site.

Even though if I were AutoPilot.fm, I’d be focusing on getting 790/103.1 for a re-launch

So what is currently available
?
I suppose since the station will be under new ownership soon, they could potentially renegotiate a lease on Potosi, drag new gear up there and reinstall it…or if VCY finds its coverage on Mt. Charleston adequate for the population it wishes to serve, they could apply to make the auxiliary site their new main.

What is this suppose to be showing?
Oh I guess the resoulution isnt sharp enough. You are looking at a two thousand watt Italian transmitter running on the frequency of one hundred and four point three megacycles. Who else besides edward R stolz would still be running an analog composite STL with subcarrier remote control and no limiter in 2023?
