They don’t have to have a reason for firing someone.
In most cases, that's correct.
Mark has apparently retained a lawyer who has issued a statement. Here's the update from FTV Live: Fired Cleveland Anchor Lawyers Up — FTVLive.
They don’t have to have a reason for firing someone.
My opinion of FTVLive is a lot lower than that. Scott Jones has often let his biases seep into his writing (especially his potshots at Tegna and Scripps) and I don’t consider him to be anything close to a reliable source. Someone might want to let him know it’s no longer 1989, or 2009 and that the anchor desk no longer is supposed to be this "sacred place".Overall, FTVLive is a great source of information as far as what is happening in television. News in general.
That being said, there is also an equal amount of biased reporting and repeatedly going after specific people he feels do not fit his squeaky-clean image of what a news, sports or weather person should be on and off the camera.
It's one thing to chastise someone who uses their station's social media account to post "all about me" selfies and videos as if it it's a dating website, but to pick and choose certain long-term personalities and literally plea to station execs to fire or reprimand these people for their actions and then continue to call them out once they are gone from the airwaves is going a bit too far.
Ask Hollie Strano.
He writes about Scripps and Tegna like a jilted lover and seems to want to have anchors be like Kent Brockman.
The phrase that pays is "Tik Tok sucks!"He is so gung ho about keeping news talent walking the fine line of professionalism, yet FTV Live sets up a paywall for certain stories, sells FTV Live merchandise, and has occasional free money giveaways.
SMH
Which is ridiculous. I've seen other local news people post restaurant locations.According to FTV Live, it went beyond just plugging local businesses on his Facebook page. It apparently started with FTV Live calling him out for promoting a local restaurant on his social media and snowballed from there. Here's the story: Fired In Cleveland — FTVLive.
Colby quit.I believe so. He has not appeared on WKYC in a couple months.
His WKYC job was a second job for him. He has been employed by a local funeral home as a funeral assistant and their director of I.T.Colby quit.
Often when long running personalities are fired, it almost always has to do with money.Mark Johnson got the unwarranted axe like his predecessor Brad Sussman did many years ago.
But who's going to be the head cheese when all is said and done?Seen Mark Johnson on WKYC last evening doing the weather. Non compete must be over now. WKYC having Betsy Kling and Mark Johnson now probably have the two best tv weather people in Cleveland now.
Betsy still claims the title Chief. Matt is Senior, so who knows! But who's going to be the head cheese when all is said and done?
WKYC is always in last place when it comes to local news ratings, so perhaps hiring Mark Johnson would drastically help improve their ratings. It must be working, as many viewers have said that they've left WEWS for WKYC.That's great and much deserved. Thought he might go to 3 or 8 when the time was right. 5 blew it. If he truly did something that bad to warrant being let go, then why would 3 take a flier if he is such damaged goods?
Ch. 5 used to be my go to. They have been a mess for several years. I don't like Rob, he seems arrogant.WKYC is always in last place when it comes to local news ratings, so perhaps hiring Mark Johnson would drastically help improve their ratings. It must be working, as many viewers have said that they've left WEWS for WKYC.
I don't know about News 5 anymore. All they cover now are the top stories, weather & sports, and the rest is pre-recorded content from Scripps and their sister stations. It's like they're trying to fall into last place.
