Remaining CRC stations going to liquidating agent

How much more value is added to a potential sale, if said station is still on the air with programming, as opposed to going silent? And this would be a station with no measurable listening audience for example (KFNN/KQFN).

I know other factors would apply, but is there a possible guestimate, percentage wise?
One of the first things a buyer might do as part of "due diligence" is to "drive the signal". If it's not on the air, there are doubts immediately.

15~Ten has a healthy signal at our Media Hut trailer in Gisela, AZ. 15~Eighty not so much. But at night, both signals go away while most Giseleans watch reruns of The Nanny with their StarLink antennas.

For me, it's the other way around. 1510 sounds like its daytime transmitter has some bad PA modules, while 1580 is louder and cleaner.

But, why continue to run the stations as "zombies" with syndicated programming which could be found elsewhere, and dated imaging (yes, they kept the promos for shows that no longer air in the automation) when the outgoing owner has stated that these stations in their current form aren't going to be around much longer? Even the websites haven't been updated since last week. The trustee could plug in a couple automated music formats for the time being to do that job until they are sold.

As of this morning, KQFN's translator at 99.3 (which puts in a pretty good signal where I live) is no longer translating KQFN. At the moment, it's just a dead carrier. I have absolutely no idea whether this also applies to the translator at 95.9 (I can't receive that where I live) nor what the new translating station will be for one or both translators. Interestingly, KFNN's translator at 105.1 mHz is still simulcasting the current programming from that station.

And, as of earlier this afternoon, the translator at 99.3 was back on the air translating the signal of KQFN. We've had some major storms come through in the past couple of days and I wonder if one of those storms knocked out the relay from KQFN to the translator.

KFNN is simulcasting Bloomburg radio, except for airing some local commercials. I am listening on the stream, and I hear Arizona commercials.

The 1580 KQFN signal is off the air this morning, but 99.3 is still operational. They're currently running the insufferable VSiN programming, duplicating KDUS, instead of Rich Eisen, which 620 has not cleared. The KQFN website no longer has the farewell video (which has been hidden on YouTube), but KFNN still has their farewell audio link.

The wind-down of these two stations have been nothing but messy.

I have heardd 3 local adds on KFNN last night and this morning. One for the Phoenix police department, Pima jr. tech school and one other one. Last night I heard them air that 1130 am in New York is airing the Monday night football game. The legal Id just says "KFNN Mesa Phoenix", no mention of the translator at the top of the hour.

Translators only have to be ID'ed three times a day. In certain instances, analog stations can ID in Morse code hourly **. And the Los Buckeye Boyz are called weird!

** for a simple explanation, contact Professor Fybush. For a 120 page dissertation, contact The Old Gringo.

@DrAkbar i think youre thinking FSK or frequency shift keying. You can use morse code, but thatd be audible.

FSK is inaudible to the human ear

The CRC stations normally ID their translators at the top of every hour, even with the non-legal ID of "K240EU Fountain Hills" (COL is actually Tempe), which has been the case for most of the time they've been on the air.

I have been listening to the KFNN stream over the last week in the morning and the afternoon and at the top of the hour, I don't listen every hour mind you. I only here them say "KFNN Mesa, Phoenix". Then they play the Fox news one minute news update and 6 minutes of PSA's and go back to Bloomberg programing in progress. Except from 9-12 pm they air Rob Carson show live and re-air his last hour at 3 pm. Plus, a few other sindicated shows in the evening. I think they just mention the translator 3 times a day now.

The 95.9 translator was broadcasting open carrier/silence about midday today. It is quite weak in my area but identifiable in fighting with a very fringe KKLD.

I think they just mention the translator 3 times a day now.

If a station opts to do spoken translator station identifications, they have to be at these times daily: Once between 7:00am and 9:00am, once between 12:55pm and 1:05pm, and once between 4:00pm and 6:00pm.

§ 74.1283 (c)(1)

This also explains the Morse Code and FSK methods of identification.

I noticed that they had the wrong COL identification for K240EU for many years (it's actually licensed to Tempe, not Fountain Hills, where the translator is located).

IIRC, the COL designation for a translator is essentially meaningless and is just there to fill a blank on the license that the FCC licensing system requires to be populated. For example, the 94.5 translator in Albuquerque (K233CG) has "Sandia" in the COL, which is not a community but is the mountain range from which it transmits.

I note that § 74.1283 does not call for a COL to be included (and in fact, it is not under FSK).

Anyone know the status for 1510 AM? Appears to me they are broadcasting dead air at a reduced power. My little Part 15 station on 1540 AM has suddenly been receiving much less interference from KFNN as of yesterday.

Edit: 105.3 FM seems to be broadcasting normally.

From my north central Phoenix location (just southwest of Piestua Peak and just south of North Mountain), there is now no 1510 signal at all. Whether, if, and when this frequency returns may well be based on the status of the deal to sell both stations. And the FCC, like most of the rest of the Federal government, is now in its 38th day of being shut down with no discernible end in sight which has a direct bearing on the ability of these stations to be sold.

Interesting. I'm right around Lookout Mountain and I can pick up a carrier signal.
