Did a pirate take over????? Just my opinion... This station SUCKS!!!!!

It is pretty lousy. It's just another form of the same music found on many spots of the FM dial. Back to Sirius/XM.

I think they got the hint from all those urban pirates that cropped up after the demise of wbot&wild. Maybe people want to hear this music. I applaud Greater Media for having the guts to make it happen.

Did you read the press release properly...?

From Twitter from NERadioWatch: GM release: "Beginning today, 96.9 FM returns to music with Power 96.9...with more surprises to take place during the upcoming week" Stunt?

So it could be classical by tommorow ;)

Yeah it definitely doesn't seem like a stunt, but you have to wonder since they didn't send out a more professional press release with personalities or anything. I mean it has been clear they were planning this for a month at least.

I was a long time listener of WJMN-FM 94.5 on visits into or near Boston. In terms of signal, however, 94.5 was always a mess around South Station and Downtown Crossing. Everything from the Prudential Center (including 96.9 FM), stepped all over them. Even on "CITY" mode, the Walkman didn't fare much better. I could never get a good signal of the old HOT 97.7 (WBOT-FM?) around those areas either. WILD-AM 1090 sounded like a good adult urban station, but with the daytime-only signal restrictions. As for staff on this new station, do you see Pebbles going over there? I was surprised she was let go from WJMN-FM!

Here in greater Hartford, we have CBS Radio's WZMX-FM 93.7, a.k.a. Hot 93.7. They've had this format since March of 2001. Until that time, the only real urban station was 5,000 watt 910 AM of New Britain/Hartford, a.k.a. "JAMZ 910." They played mostly Hip Hop, but mixed in some adult urban, usually at night. I actually liked that station. They only show I remember was a weekend countdown show with Walt "Baby" Love.

The closest station with Adult Urban to southern Hartford County now is WYBC-FM 94.3 of New Haven, the Yale University station with commercials handled by Cox Media Group (WPLR-FM and a couple of others). However, their signal is limited, since there's another 94.3 station on Long Island, NY.

I would be shocked if they didn't try to get Pebble's on there. I think Jamn is in A LOT of trouble. They had there chance to sow up this market and got complacent.

newstalk969.com still works etc but links to its FB (gone) and twitter are dead.

@bostonradio tweet:
>This has to be a stunt. The website is basically a redirect to an online player

Gaffe 1200 had a site too I think (though they lasted a wk or so). But who knows!

You don't use an established format as a stunt. You put on something so outlandish that people can't take seriously but gets them talking. Maybe to you guys Urban is outlandish. But to the real world it's not.

Agreed 100%. Too many strikes against them:

1) AMP
2) Pebbles/Melissa let go. No morning show left at all. Ramiro will have to work really hard to succeed by himself. Many female listeners are pissed off.
3) Music has been overplayed to the max. I am only saying this because I used to listen to the station a lot and they always repeated, but not like this. Diamonds, I Cry and Clique have been in power rotation (100+ times a week) since 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. It's 2013 already.....
4) Evolution 101.7
5) Now an urban?
