101.5 The Point Flipping To Hot 101.5?

New Music beats Everything in all styles of Music.. Pop,Rock,Country,Hip-Hop.. whatever...80% or more of the listening audiance that listens to music in their car, at work, at home, want to hear "New Music". Sorry to some that work in the business that don't get it, but it's what most people want to hear.

I think Cox going after 93.3 FLZ is great. Play new pop music and attack Flz. I think eighther 97X or 102.5 should do the same. Play Alot of "New" Active Rock songs per hour and Attack 98rock to Death. 97X is just "bad".. boring playlist and the scene is not there compared to the active rock music scene nationally. If Cox wants to continue to get the top spots in all formats. They should seriously continue the trend that they did with 101.5. Which station they do that in the Rock scene, who knows. My bet is 97X but 102.5 would work better...

Hoping not to seem completely idiotic, but does anyone have any idea how long it might take to play 10,000 songs?

Ask Doc Thayer. He did a million. maybe you can extrapolate. :)

Without commercials, playing around 14 songs an hour, 10,000 songs should take around a month to play. Something like 330-340 songs a day.

Guess they have an end date and start date in mind that was pre-determined regardless of the number played in a row. 10,000 in a row is a great gimmick to start a format, however, don't think anyone will blow the whistle if they played 9,993.

Thanks, all, for the answers about how long 10000 songs will take! :)

Was also wondering if it's 'normal' for stations to speed up the songs. Never heard of that before. Have seen posts elsewhere that say that Hot is doing this...

"speeding up the songs" or increseaing the pitch is an old Top 40 radio procedure which enabled a station to play more songs each hour since each song would finish faster due to the increased pitch. The idea was to play "more music" each hour than the competition.

It was also to make the "other guys"'s songs "sound" slower.

I remember WWDJ speeding up Cher's "Half-breed" sounding like the Chipmunks.

Club DJs used to do that in Discos when the 120 didn't segue exactly with the next song.

Not exactly. You only gain about 4-5 seconds per 3 1/2 minute song, which works out to MAYBE an extra minute in the hour. It is to make the competition sound like their music is dragging. Also good for momentum.

It was done for both reasons.

Although you wouldn't gain a lot of time, it would help for back timing.

I remember the old WYND 1280 Sarasota, Surf Row Radio had their turntables set at 47 and 48 rpms.....back in the 60's and 70's...

"FLZ FIRES BACK"!!! (with a Britney Spears concert ticket promo)

Just listened to the FLZ audio and I think it was way to inside. Hot went after MJ, a known entity in Tampa yet FLZ went after a bunch of people their listeners don't know. FLZ ranks as #2 on my all time fave's for CHR, right behind Power 96/Miami of the 80's but for me, this FLZ shot back across the bow of Hot missed the mark. Gotta say this is fun to watch & hear! I'll be in the area next week and listening to...CBS Radio!

You are right! "New music" is always great to listen to. But do we have any new "music" today to listen to? Take away all the fake echo chambers and reverbs and try to listen to most artists capabilities solo, is quite disappointing to say the least!
It is such an advantage today, that we can make our own quality CDs and still enjoy the real talents that were recorded in the past and still sound great.

Haven't been listening to WFLZ but what shots were they taking at WPOI.

"Yeah, Its 1995 and MJ is Cool." Announcer on Hot 101-5.

I have noticed the songs being sped up a bit recently, too.

93.3FLZ stopped their "Rewind Sundays". :'(
Now it's this "Sunday Funday" mashups...
