103.7 the Christmas Station

Complain all you want. Thousands have complained fro 6 years now, and the "spinmeisters"show great numbers' <without considering how many left and never returned or the numbers b 4 and after the Christmas septic tank of tunes> Channel 8 did a story and survey on it. Overwhelming majority hate it. However the AE's program the station not the programming department. Now we'll have more board ops appearing on here from there.

Based on nothing? ??? Are you kidding me? It's too early for all-christmas!

I wasn't talking to whether or not it was too early for all-Christmas (which I happen to agree with). I was talking about because they switched to "lite fm" after Christmas or because "cool" was used on the website a few times, those were obvious signs that another format switch after Christmas was coming.

I didn't hear this for myself but I was told KVIL is running a pre-recorded statement saying that they have received a lot of complaints about the Christmas music but rest assured Lite will be back after Christmas. Can anyone back this up? ???

There is a recorded promo running that says, "We'd like to apologize to our listeners who are upset that we're playing Christmas music this early in the year, and with that in mind, we are going to change back to our regular programming... On December 26th. Ho Ho Ho!" Then it plays part of an upbeat Christmas song and says, "The New 103-7 lite fm, this is the Christmas Station, baby!"

This is an abomination. 103.7 and those inadequate, idiotic incompetents at CBS are playing Christmas music. They're using a feature that's proven to get monstrous November ratings every year because it spreads good cheer and makes hundreds of thousands of listeners smile and feel warm. In the process they will help retailers sell more goods, move the community at large toward a generous, giving holiday mood early and--get this--they're trying to get good ratings and make money in the process. DON'T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT!

One of the locals did a piece yeaterday on how many stores are getting more Christmas product out earlier, and with discounts before Black Friday. So, in some ways, it makes perfect sense for some station to help out with this annual shopping ritual.. :)

When I hear it in late December, I get all warm and fuzzy. When I hear it in early November, it makes me puke.

Actually, I don't think so. You need to hear it. The tone does not come across in the text. The thing is done more tongue-in-cheek. Pretty silly, really, that people would get irate over this.

My post was also tongue-in-cheek. I have zero intention of listening to KVIL.

I've say it once and i'll say it again: Its not "The Christmas Station" if it doesnt play Run-DMCs "Christmas In Hollis"

That's cool. Did you listen before we played Christmas music?

OK I'll bite... Why do you want to know?

As I said in another post, it's too bad we don't already have the PPM in this market. KVIL would be in for some huge, negative surprises if it was.

That's your unproven opinion until PPM is here.

I had been ignoring this thread until now. But here's something that sums up my sentiments quite well: www.suntimes.com/news/roeper/636316,CST-NWS-roep06.article Chicago, Dallas or Oshkosh, it doesn't matter. Richard Roeper poses a good question: "...The evidence says the reason stations go early with the X-mas tunage is simple: The numbers go up. What I want to know is: WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE? Seriously."

If people want to see a dancing Santa display at Wal-Mart or Target the day after Labor Day or hear solid Christmas music for almost two months straight, they've got some real issues. Just like Crass Commercial KVIL.
