1060 WIXC - Changes

Not only that, but I was listening in Charleston, SC (which gets a pretty good WIXC signal on the coast), and they were playing the Division II National Championship Game yesterday, when maybe 20 people or less care about Cal Poly Pomona and Findlay in all of Central Florida.

I believe during the tournament, they ran all four games each day, which is what Genesis signed for. They have such a great signal, but it is one of the most wasted signals on the entire East Coast. You have a 50,000 watt daytime signal, covering millions of people, and you flip to a news-talk format with third-string hosts. You could very easily do a full-service oldies or country station, and get a 3 rating on AM. That would be great. :D

I don't know why you think WIXC has a good signal. It is painful to try to listen to in the southern 1/3 of Brevard County, where over 50% of the population lives. Maybe it carries well north, but to the south it's terrible unless you're right at the beach. 50kw never sounded so lame so close to the tower site. And it will take a very long time to recover from their ESPN to Classic Country to Adult Standards to News Talk format flips in the course of seven months. The content they carry now is third rate at best, since WMMB has the top talk three radio draws with Beck, Limbaugh, and Hannity. WIXC does reach Titusville, which WMMB does not, so they are a 50kw station with a realistic market of 75,000 people tops, most of whom listen to Orlando stations primarily.

Three share, and the median age would be 75. Not very sellable. Not enough revenue to pay for more than one air talent at most.

Maybe James Crystal could buy it. Hilliard likes 50KW blowtorches, but the pattern has to be reworked. The original 10KW pattern designed by Chuck Crosno covered the south part of the county and did not go north at all. Dropped off nr SR 5 day and night.
Once upon a time this radio station had a 22 share. And was number 1 25-54 adults. All it took was knowing who the listeners were and where to find em.

Liz Litterello is the new program Director. Look for some good things to come.

Well, hopefully they'll give her more than 30-60 days to work miracles!

A decent station takes time to build.

I don't think the owner of the station has time. He needs to get the monthly billing up over $3000 or there are big problems coming. Major heads have already rolled at Genesis because of the money crunch, and more difficulties may be in the offing. Stay tuned.

Stay tuned? I hear tons of new clients on the station and from what I understand the billing is way above $3000, although I believe you meant $30000 which from the sound of things must be pretty close.

I heard the March billing was $1800, but I could be high on that. Came from a recently high level former employee in the know, but hey, what do I know? $30,000? They must be playing those spots on other stations. I mean either let's have serious conversations here or just be quiet, eh?

high level CURRENT managment. you sound like someone I fired once

You know exactly what I'm talking about, Smitty, but you can continue with the game if you want. If you really do know what you say you know, there's only a couple of people who would know that and it's pretty obvious which ones you ain't. That's what I meant by "game", portraying yourself as an insider "in the know" but saying nothing.

No skin off my nose, though. At this point it's clear that WIXC ain't working. It will not be going to ESPN. It will not be going to News/Talk. It will not be going to News/Talk. It will not be going to Classic Rock or Light Rock or Country. I see a station of brokered shows in the future. Sherlock won't be around after that.

For all the station could have been worth to its owners, it will now diminish enormously. There is no space in Brevard County for such a station that is vastly overpowered for its limited reach. Titusville alone is a nothing market of less than 50,000 people so you have to have something that sizzles to make the station into something and sell it throughout the county.

The shame is that it was sounding so good, and could have continued sounding good. And, it had a product that could be sold. It doesn't now. Maybe it will on 12/08 but forgive me if I have my doubts.

So there you are back in November getting it wrong.....you really suck as a fortune teller, and your information at best is second or third hand from disgruntled ex-employees.
So let's see so far you predicted the format change WRONG...you got the billing ..WRONG, so what do you really know? NOTHING as far as I can see...alot of hot air with no substance.

The problem with any radio property in Brevard is that it is living in the shadow of Orlando. Especially with all the TV's and most of the FM's sitting in the Bithlo Tower Farm a stone's throw from the Brevard County line. A look at the Arbitron shows except for a very few stations, most of the Brevard listening is to Orlando radio.

Being on AM in 2009 is bad enough, but being on AM with little to no coverage into the neighboring major market has got to be the absolute kiss of death!

Looks like I struck a nerve there. You're right, I got the format change wrong primarily because I had not realized that BM was really that stupid. The billing? You and I both know that is absolutely 100% correct and yes, it is because it came from a disgruntled fired employee but the info is the info and you can take that to the bank. At this point, WIXC has negative value and I wouldn't be shocked to see it go dark since it is such a resource drain - that's what really sucks. Giant sucking sound mainly because of the arrogance of one man.

::) I'll give XXXX dollars ffor it Cash..Now..Send me the papers BIG APE

I enjoy reading these posts. I read Liz Litterello was the new programming director of WIXC. Well their programming sucks so I am sure it will not get any better. The problem with WIXC is this. The owner of the station hires people on how cheap he can get them. I just hope Litterello sticks with programming and stays off the air.

I just heard a rumor that WIXC is going to start a local morning radio show with Liz littarello who is now the new programming director and ... are you ready for this ... Ed Dean.... LOL... Now I heard this from someone inside the company but I still can't believe it...Liz is bad enough ... But ED Dean.. he is the worst... his old show on wmel was just god awful..... He walks around the Young and dumb republicans group like he is a somebody.. Most of the members in the group think he is joke and now I guess he will prove it once again on the air….I guess they will call thier show "Dumb and Dumber in the Morning". I am sure Fennessy will get a good laugh at this....

No mention of it on their (WIXC) website...actually not much of anything on their website ;D The site was mentioned in a promo a day or two ago.

http://www.wixc1060.com/

I stumbled into that site last week and thought it was a joke! It tells nothing about WIXC.

With today's climate in the radio business it's interesting to see all you negative disgruntled mostly ex-radio people spout off. Instead of being happy for Liz or an independent owner going up against the Clear Channels of the world (who are killing radio) you want to sit and arm chair quarterback the station. Is Liz perfect, heck no...but she is PASSIONATE about radio and it is exciting for me to see that there is still some passon left in this business. As far as the website in concerned it says under construction and has some recent pictures updated, not sure what everyone is looking at or for but I'm sure it will be done soon as they look to be launching a 1/2 gift Cert program.

Being looked at because it was mentioned on-air. Running promos on-air for a website under construction is lame. Perhaps they (Genesis) can update WAMT's since it is out of date when they decide to work on WIXC's.
