1060 WIXC - Changes

I guess they will call thier show "Dumb and Dumber in the Morning". I am sure Fennessy will get a good laugh at this....
Why should he laugh. They are working and collecting a paycheck...he's not.

Hey, I would love to hear a good product going out over WIXC. They've had that in the past, but what has happened in the last six months or so sounds like and strikes me as amateur hour. I'm hoping Liz Literello all the best and great success. Heck, I hate to see anyone put their heart and soul into creating something and then have it fail. But at WIXC, from what I see and hear, it is first and foremost a management problem where the owner chews people up and spits them out, all the while telling everyone what a wonderful Christian man he is. He leaves a lot of carnage along the landscape as he goes. There is a way of making your former employees well-wishers, but this company can't seem to do that. Every ex-Genesis person seems to have a story to tell that has a common ring to it. Talk to any of the Friday Night Locker Room guys, any of their former on-air foks, any of their former sales folks, managers, or even VPs of Genesis who have been fired. A lot of bad will and a lot of negative karma seems to be beaming out toward the owner of that company. That's a shame. There is a way of conducting business that doesn't leave such carnage in the wake.

The new morning show is a joke... . Bill Mic will still dominate the morning,,the bottom line is they are cheap talent and that is what WIXC is looking for.. that show wont last and neither will the GM there..look for new format changes soon...I know someone in the tampa office and that is the word...

Who cars about bill mic? Hell you can't even hear that station north of 520. If you reallly want to talk about domination, Lisa and Timmy WAOA, rule Brevard county mornings.

I know someone in Tampa, as well as local, format change is not even on the radar screen, they have billing going in the right direction and thats what really matters.

Listening to Lisa and Tim in the morning is about as exciting as listening to my dog snore. But listening to my dog snore is still more exciting than the new WIXC morning show. Billing LOL... it can only get better. My high school son makes more money detailing cars a month then this station has billed... Get a grip. I know BM is interviewing for a new GM and VP.Just a matter of time.

Uhm, that's why they have WMMV... But you're right, the CC station does not cover the entire county. They get all their listeners from Cocoa southward. So WIXC has Titusville all to itself with all 50,000 of those watts... Now they just have to find some programming somebody wants to listen to, and some advertisers, and they'll have a radio station.

What do you think WIXC will draw in the next book? Any guesses?

They need t focus on Central and North Brevard, I am hearing tons of new local advertisers on there, I do think there still needs to be some programing tweaking.
Since they have no ratings, anything will be an improvment.
It will be interesting to see if they clip WMMB bit..... I have heard that Clear Channel and Cumulus are not subscribiing to Arbitron anymore in Brevard.

Well, station is still cranking in the same format, I understand they are adding sales people.........

Yeah, that Haitian Creole music this afternoon at about 2:15pm was sure an audience grabber for Brevard's Big Talker. But hey, a brokered $100 a week Hatian Creole show is better than nothing. Personally, I can't understand a word of Creole.

Lot's of AM stations broker shows on the weekends, although I do think it is odd that the station would broker a non-English language show. What I found more odd was that the station was running advertising for advertisers local to the Tampa market. That is very alienating to the Brevard market, and makes the station seem odd. I heard ads today like that. One I think was for Service Magic of Tampa, or something like that. I forget who the other one was. I can't believe a Tampa business serving a local market would pay anthing to advertise in Brevard, so I can only guess that these are throw-ins for sales at the Genesis Tampa station. But the slight amount of marginal revenue that might generate does not compensate for the negative impression such ads produce.

Thats their traffic report/trade, it comes out of Tampa. Bob Alpert

Why don't they do live, local traffic reports? It would make more sense than getting a traffic report from Tampa, where the guy has no idea what the traffic is actually like in Brevard. My best guess, the guy in Tampa is just reading the highway patrol's live traffic crash website. A local guy could do that. And, they would not have to pay the ISDN cost to pipe in some guy from Tampa several times a day for reports. This is not saving BM money and I would think he would rather have a local person do it to save a few pennies on ISDN costs. Why can't Greg Sherlock do it? Then they could drop the Tampa market spots.

Some items of constructive criticism:

1. I'm sure Liz is a great person, but she should never ever talk on the radio. Many people who are not from the Northeast find her New York (or "Joisey" or what ever) accent to be grating. Sorry, but that's radio.

2. Please make Greg Sherlock stop saying "Tee Storms" in the weather reports. That's goofy. Where have you ever heard anyone else say that in a weather report? It isn't cute, it's goofy.

3. Teach the traffic guy how to pronounce the names of Brevard County roads. "Wick Ham" is goofy. In Pineda, the "e" is a long "e". Sounds foreign, and doesn't help the station. And yes, drop the Tampa market spots. They also make the station sound foreign to local ears.

4. Stop all non-English language programming immediately. Talk about sounding "foreign". It doesn't matter how much is being paid for it, or when it is playing. It is damaging. BM cannot possibly be that desperate.

5. Board ops / automation are still not smooth after all this time. Spots get stepped on in the middle of the phone number read. That's bad. Multiple spots run at the same time. Sounds amateurish quite often.

I heard Tampa traffic reports on WBVD last week, that Clear Channel.....I also hear spots getting stepped on etc, on WMMB. My point is that it happens to everyone everywhere, heck I heard it on a Chicago station last summer when I was there.

It is great to strive for perfection but we live in a real world now, don't we? It is also great that WIXC is the station of listening choice for many of the radio experts on this board.

No Phil Hendry Tuesday 3:00 A.M. (7/7) (35th rerun of Ramsey instead)

Dead air Wednesday 3:00 A.M. 7/8

I hope they don't Phil off. They guy is entertaining.

I check out all the radio stations I can pick up. Just an old habit, I guess. I like to know what's going on in my market. WIXC has improved, but it has a long way to go. Yes, they play re-runs of the same radio show. I've heard it several times. That shouldn't be, and I don't know if its the feed they're getting or what, but it's not good. And I agree about the accents, it's just a plain fact that people don't want to hear them. I'm surprised WMMB/WMMV pull decent numbers with Bill Mick with his hillbilly accent, but I guess Brevard is more of a "good ol' boy" market than it is a northeastern one. The 7-9am morning show needs to take more calls, though. Cackling back and forth is only entertaining if you have a comedy team. Talking about home owner's associations and so forth only keeps people's attention for just so long.

Now, Larry Brewer was a real morning show host. If WIXC could get him that would be the real coup de grace for the morning drive talk market in north and centeral Brevard. Anyone know what Larry's doing these days?
