I wish someone could just come on the air and play classic doo-wop, and 60's and 70's music without feeling the need to make a political statement....or constantly bitch about Dave Wannstedt as Frankie Day did.....or go into 5-minute diatribes about their own lives and families. Although I enjoyed the music...Frankie Day's incessant and repetitive rambling along with his on-air "stroke my own ego fests" is what made the shows very unlistenable. Although I admired his enthusiasm.....it didn't translate to good radio. However, the saving grace was, and always been the music. And yes, those "obscure Mon Valley oldies" will be missed. I always thought Candy and Mike on 810 offer a terrific oldies music selection, coupled with their humble delivery, I think works very well for them.
Although its certainly up to individual taste, I find both 620 and 770 at its best when the musical programming highlights the music of the 60's and 70's...mixed in with numerous classic station id's....and Clark Ingram assuring us that the station is playing more music than "KDKA and KQV combined!" There is something to be said for a playlist such as I heard one evening last summer that I think included Starbuck, followed by the Animals, then Bob Welch and then Mamas and Pappas, with some Beach Boys thrown in, along with a Little Anthony tune (in no particular order...but I recall the songs.)
To the new guy that Parttimer is referring to (Who I haven't heard yet so I certainly don't want to pass judgement yet)......heed some advice from "Big Ray"......"Less chatter and more platter."
