Ummm....."Peppermint Twist" by Joey Dee and the Starlighters caught NUMBER ONE on the Billboard Hot 100. IIRC it charted TWICE.

My friend, that ain't exactly what I would call "a stiff."

But what the heck? "This is only AM radio," after all. ;) :D

Aw sheesh! When I make requests they're so obscure it's unreal; and now I'm busted having a hit, for which I shall attempt to redeem myself.

Speaking of "Busted", did the genius get to No. 1 with that one?

I was listening to XM 70's this morning and heard R. Dean Taylor's "Indiana Wants Me".

His follow up was a stiff (IMHO)...

I have a song that I don't know the name or the artist but I was hoping you radio geniouses (i know i probably spelled it wrong) would know:

Today's submission...

I was channel surfing the other day, when I came upon a program about The Monkees. I only wanted to catch a glimpse of this, but it was such a train wreck, I couldn't turn away.

To think they actually outsold The Beatles in 67 is amazing, for a group that really couldn't write their own songs, play their own insturments (or sing for that matter).

Anyway, they talked about how they wanted to go on tour and perform their own music. Ouch.

Here's a Monkees stiff from 1969, one of their last charted hits:

And since one good stiff deserves at least TWO others, I also love The Cone's follow-ups ("follows-up??")

Want Ads by Honey Cone went to No. 1 in 1971. It succeded Brown Sugar by The Stones and pre-ceeded It's Too Late by Carole King. One of my favorite songs of the early 70s was So Very Hard to Go by Tower of Power.
