Andre out at Party

PhDance said:
Point is, we lose a lot of the struggle fighting each other in the dance community over what specific subgenre is the dominant one- which one is the future, which one is dying, etc. We should be using that energy towards advocating for the whole dance umbrella to the mainstream audiences.

That's what I'm trying to do with the coalition. It is a tough and daunting task because of the in-fighting and the insistence of staying back instead of looking at today as well as for the next generation, but we are trying. Even if a song that has been "heard" by a dance fan gets some play on a Top 40/CHR station, then that's excellent! ANYTHING to get something heard by the masses instead of our "choir" :D is fine!

It disappeared along with the lack of the marketing of all this new dance on Pulse..which has turned more into a CHR then pure dance. I guess it would be too good to be true to have an entirely new dance station, this would bound to happen.

He would fit well over at Pulse!

Nothing against Andre because I don't know nor have I have I ever heard him on air but from what I've been reading about him would he really fit? Grant it, it's his format but with Jewelz as MD and Joel Salkovitz as PD not to mention a full, full-timer line up where would he fit? Afternoon jocks won't bother with part-time work let alone the fact a former PD. From what I've seen in 15yrs of being in the business most people would look at that as downgrade. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, it just that most people who have reach the heights he apparently has, have a hard time swallowing their pride.

If a tree falls in the woods...

Then I'll be the first to yell "TIMBER!"....what's that about???

Granted, my sense with Pulse's non-marketing is because they haven't made much money....though now with ad sales happening, things are picking up. Pulse DOES have their "street team van" out and I would think during the summer, you will see it more often. Once they get a promotion department online, be sure you will see the subway ads, maybe TV commercials, bumper/window stickers...who knows. Mega Media is a company burgeoning to become a player in the industry. And even though the signal may be weak, the industry IS talking about them and whatever they do with current rhythmic is an indicator for other stations in any given market to consider.

I've always said from the beginning that if Pulse has to play some CHR, R&B and some hip-hop (the fun aspect) to get more people into the station and dance music, that is a good thing. Right now the recurrents have started to drop about 5 percent...the mixmaster shows are helping get new music out there.

Regarding Andre, yes, the guy has been with a company for awhile. But hey, a job is a job...gotta "pay the bills", right? If he can get into Pulse that would be a good thing.

Me personally...I don't see it as a "downgrade", even based on being a PD, etc. If you're moving from one market into NYC, then there you go!

The industry WAS talking about them. I don't hear any industry noise pertaining to 'The Pulse' recently, and more importantly, I don't hear anyone at all talking about them, save the dance fans listening. There is no marketing, no more buzz, and the fact that many radios can't even receive the station because they start at 87.9 Hence my point about the tree. I'm not hearing much about The Pulse right now. Tony, feel free to show me all the 'current' industry talk about The Pulse. I'd be happy to stand corrected if you can show me where the industry is paying much attention.

I have to agree with Tony. it is pretty obvious that the industry is keeping an eye or should i say ear on Pulse, have you noticed how Z100 is all of the sudden doing "the mix @ 6" they are having Jason N. Remix some of their currents. I know Z100 has always flirted with dance songs but David Guetta ??? You have to admit that's a Pulse influenced add. Pulse has been playing Usher's Love In This Club remix for how long now? answer doesn't matter cause guess what song started getting played on Z100 today, yep Usher's remix which Pulse had been playing... I can go on and mention how KTU suddenly is more current than they were 6mos ago. No one wants to admit that Pulse is influencing the market and will justify changes and adds with any lame reason and discount Pulse based on a weaker signal, but the truth is they are paying attention and reacting. Do you think they don't realize that even tho Pulse's signal isn't as strong as theirs it does cover the most densely populated area. The area Pulse's signal covers in NYC/NJ/LI has more potential listeners than the areas outside of their coverage area.

As for Andre, Again I agree with you jumping from market 263 to #1 is far from a downgrade and bills do need to get paid! So I stand corrected.

Do you want a press release to show what Mega Media is doing recently???
http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=109&STORY=/www/story/05-14-2008/0004813640&EDATE=

Came out May 14th (3 days ago from this post). Pepsi is paying attention if they want to brand Sobe Beverages on the station. With the "mixmasters" on the air with positive reviews, it can only mean more advertising...and not just on a local level either!

Once they get a promotional team going things can only blow up. It will get to the point that you can't IGNORE Pulse. Z-100 and 'KTU certainly aren't.

If (regarding Z-100) a station that barely played ANY if AT ALL dance tracks are now starting to pay attention to the charts, especially now regarding David Guetta (my hope is that Ercola and Heikki L "Deep At Night" is next for CHR play) and adding a mix show in "competition" (though they don't want to "say it") then something must be influencing them to do so. If Z-100 didn't feel Pulse was a threat, then why "go there"???

With 'KTU, a station that COULD have gone more current extensive at its peak but DIDN'T and therefore tweak things to a rhythmic A/C, even they have to realize that Pulse is doing something (gotta love those 'KTU bash ads that Pulse does!). Yeah, the ratings went up for 'KTU on the last book. It's definitely NOT coming from the dance fans I can assure you that. If anything, 'KTU probably gained from those that have bailed out of Fresh 102.7 or the former CD 101.9 listeners that want something rhythmic but on their level. Would love to see the numbers from those that are dance fans that stayed on with 'KTU after the tweak to right now. That's telling.

And I'm STILL going to yell "timber" because if I am the only one hearing that "tree", then I am making sure others hear it too, despite the limitations of the "woods" ;)

Seeing this is very sad. Like many of us that have quit or been fired from TMO, Andre will finally be in a better place.

I am working on 4 years gone from TMO and I am in a great place, much better than I ever was when I was there. Letting me go was the best thing that ever happened to me. Thank you TMO!

Just my exact feeling about Cablevision Eric! I can definitely sympathize with you! :)

Tony-

You mean that you relate, right? No sympathy here needed this has been the best four years that I have had in a long time. Best thing that ever happened there was me being fired. Look at what transpired after my departure. Amy Fisher...Pleeeeaaaasseee. She is without a doubt f-able if that is what you dig, but a morning show host...uhhhhhhhhh.... no. Then the sh*tcasting disaster...omfg what a g-damn greek tradgedy. And for the record, every September from 2004-2008 I was called in to see what my level of interest in coming back was. As recently as a few weeks before the flip to Spanish, I sat in their offices with the Big Man and John C both who I respect and adore, listened to their dance, looked around and thankfully they decided to flip the Bone Spanish. I only went their and entertianed their thoughts out of a strange level of loyalty that I have for them. They did teach me a lot and helped me get to where I am at now.

In my opinion Victor is the best thing that could have hapened to that orgainzation. Give him two years, he'll pull it together if they give him the support that he needs. I have worked with him in and out of radio, I know him as a businessman and I know what he can do. As for Andre, his longevity and loyalty is to be admired. He should have saw it coming and should have started running a long long time ago but he hung in there despite the adversity. He was a stong worker bee in the hive from hell. I'm done and I'll buzz off.

Eric, great to hear from you! Just wanted to say you and 985 the bone rocked!! Loved the fact that you were the only station in the nation that played metallica creeping death @ 10 am :). Wish you guys went heavier on the currents, but you were the only ones who had the balls to rock currents PERIOD. Your show kicked ass. Hope all is well.

Was just checking out the Pulse website, which they did a nice job with and noticed in the bios that there is yet another FORMER Morey jock at Pulse, Abel Sanchez.
