I don't mind Atlanta stations being different, and I know I shouldn't really care since I don't live in Atlanta at the moment, but what I dislike about straight urbans and adult leaning top 40's is that any hits that are not cool enough to be urban but too hot for the Atlanta chr's simply just don't get played.

??? We have Power 96.1 now - I can't find any songs that are too "hot" (lol ::)) to be played on Power, Q100, or Star

Speaking of songs that are too "HOT" for Atlanta radio, "Some Nights" by Fun is still #3 on ITunes, and barely being played at all

I've heard it twice on Power today, and Star has been giving it some night spins. I agree that it sounds like a hit, and I'm shocked that it hasn't blown up more quickly on the CHR charts.

I hope you find what you are looking for their Brent, but most of the programming comes from the same corporate scumbucket washout factories spewing the same crap on terrestrial radio.

I just switched to Sprint and got an EVO 4G with unlimited data, so I can get whatever I want from dozens of independent non-corporate media, and enjoy European 80's/90's stations like Kickradio.NL, which are 100 percent listener supported, well run, and have don't have DJ's that laugh at their own jokes, or American record thug companies dictating what they play. Most of them are professionally engineered and programmed, and sound better than some of these trash dumpster translators the Cloud company has stuck up to keep LPFM from being a reality in this market.

Piss on corporate radio, as Edward Norton said in the 25th hour:
"F**k this whole city and everyone in it. From the row houses of Astoria to the penthouses on Park Avenue. From the projects in the Bronx to the lofts in Soho. From the tenements in Alphabet City to the brownstones in Park slope to the split levels in Staten Island. Let an earthquake crumble it. Let the fires rage. Let it burn to f**kin ash then let the waters rise and submerge this whole, rat-infested place."

Just search and replace with corporate radio, and radio stations that have ruined the once great fourth estate and replaced it with homoginzed, marginalized fecal matter.

Sirius XM DOWNGRADED (imo) by getting rid of BBC Radio 1xtra and putting in LA's KIIS FM and New York's Z100 instead. And you'd think Z100 would be a fun, live top 40 station being that it's in the number 1 market in the US! It's much more boring than KIIS, which itself is just ok. At least KIIS's mixshows are awesome and contains some hits not played on US radio in regular rotation.

I totally agree, after I listened for a few hours it was the same bullshit that we get here, just more variety, plus I am not paying 14.99 a month to listen to radio, it was a trial membership but I have already cancelled, and the guy who was from India of course tried to talk me out of it, and offered me a 9.99 for 6 months I laughed and said "just please cancel" End of that story. Plus the audio was horrendous. Love the Edward Norton piece and so true.

And since I'm on this topic, I might as well add in one more thing I wanted to say for some time now. I cannot stand when certain ATL stations play a top 40 dance hit by someone like the black Eyed Peas or LMFAO or Pitbull then call it "International Music." This only teaches people to be stupid because they hear the uptempo beat and some non pop/rock or non urban artist that used to receive little to no attention in ATL before WiLD and think "wow, what kind of foreign s--t are they playing?"

There is probably some truth to the "segregation" of music between the top 40 and urban here. But again, I think that probably has had more to do with the strength of Atlanta's African American community and the strength of urban radio here. Most markets in the country didn't really even have urban radio stations 20 years ago. And most still only have 1 or 2. And because of that, I think in other markets, top 40 probably has played a wider spectrum of R&B and rap than Atlanta "top 40 stations.

But it's not as though Atlanta radio has been ultra conservative. Power 99 used to play a lot more techno music than other CHRs in any market I heard. And 99X was a real trend setter in alternative music. And Atlanta has always been way ahead of the curve in urban music.

What I think is different in Atlanta from most markets is that because of the strength of Atlanta's urban radio market, there has always kind of been a line drawn in the sand between urban radio and everyone else, and there's not a lot of overlap. That is why while I'm not really a big listener of Wild, I really liked what that station was doing by bridging that gap in a way that was really different. I have had several of my younger nephews and neices come to visit who loved that station and wished they had something that where they lived.

One last thing. Maybe I don't listen as much as you do, but I've never heard a station pass off LMFAO, Black Eyed Peas or Pitbull as some sort of exotic "international music". Pop music, even AC music, has always included a lot of acts from artists from all over the world.

I resigned with XM yesterday and because I was a previous subscriber from 2004-2008 they offered me the next 6 months for $25 and waived the activation fee. All of my AM presets are now set on 530 and FM presets have been set to 87.7 ;D

A friend of mine who listened to Journey 97.9 told me she subscribed this past week and will NEVER listen to Atlanta radio again. She told me she has heard so many songs from the 80's and 90's that Journey never played and she's finding other channels she likes one of her favorites being Hair Nation.

The audio quality may not be the best but it's better than what's offered on Atlanta radio and I don't mind paying since most of the channels are commercial free.
