B92 flips the switch to 92.5 THE BOX "IS HIP HOP"

Sounds like this station is pitching up their music. First song is Usher - Lil Freak (Remix). Second song Drake - Believe It Or Not featuring Gucci Mane. <<<< Surprised at that, its just a mixtape track, not Top 50 at any format.

It just happened. 92.5 The Box is here. First song "Lil Freak - Usher"

Ken, I think they in the mix!!!

Believe your right. But in my opinion the first song should of been "On To The Next One - Jay-Z" hopefully theyll play that in the first hour shortly.

Big ups to Michael Tee and the Apex staff. 92.5 The Box sounds like a winner so far. Charleston's other Urban station has NEVER done an all mix weekend! Finally, Charleston might have a big market sound. They even threw in "Charleston's ONLY station for Hip-Hop" in one of the drops. I hope Z93 JAMZ fails because they've gotten too comfortable, but now Terry Base and Yonni are gonna catch it. If im not mistaken Rickey Smiley starts Monday at 6am. Great to see Charleston is getting attention on 3 radio boards.

Hold up there. I don't want to see Z fail. It's time to up the game, Z! Competition makes everyone better. I'd love to see a bloody blow-by-blow battle! We haven't had a good street fight in a long time here!

I agree. Here in the DFW, The Beat's presence has made K104 a much better station. Before 97.9's arrival, K104 was horrible. Competition makes you stay on top of your game.

Competition may make you step your game up, but Terry Base is still gonna get his butt whipped, by two stations now! :D :D :D :D This is getting alot of attention, glad I was FIRST to report it.

yet another urban station. That's five of them (92.5, 93.3, 107.3, 99.7, and 106.3 (gospel)). They just did this to get their show on in the market.
Wouldn't be the first time. Foxy 104.5 was one of five back in 1990.

Wow, I thought I was the only one that remember FOXIE 104.5!!! If memory serves me right, back then it was Z-93(93.5 back then), 94 JAMS(94.3), FOXIE 104.5 and WPAL POWER 73(730am). As for the fifth station I believe WJZY-AM was Urban Gospel and this may have been around the time MAGIC 101.7 signed on. At one point of time Charleston was at 6 FM Urbans in the early 2000s. Z93 JAMZ, POWER 94.3(or 94.3 THE BEAT), HOT 98.9, RHYTHM 100.9, MAGIC 101.7 and GOSPEL 106.3

In 92.5 THE BOX news, Charlamagne Da God hits airwaves at the end of April. As of now, looks like Z93 maybe loosing a mixshow DJ headed to THE BOX.

There was a big article in Billboard about Charleston's five urban stations. I had forgotten one was AM. The station that would have been mine is the one that became Foxy, though I had Joy 92 when I went to Myrtle Beach.

Is Charlamagne Da God going to be live in studio? I don't rememeber him being on HOT 98.9 years ago. (infact i've never heard of him until I saw that Wendy Williams VH1 show that use to come on) I've read some online articles on this guy some good mostly bad (lol) I wonder how raw his show is going to be.

DJ H Vidal (Power 94.3) would've been a great mixshow DJ to have.

Iceman, Charlamagne will be live and local. He's from Moncks Corner and he did radio back in the day on HOT 98.9/WWBZ. I believe he did a short stint at Z-93 before joining HOT 98.9. After he left Charleston he went to Columbia's HOT 103.9/WHXT. Thats where he got discovered by Wendy Williams after his raw interview with Buffie the Body. He then got the chance to do mornings in Philly at Radio One's 100.3 The Beat, but only lasted a few months. Now, he's headed home to the 843. However, he's been hosting nightclubs in Charlotte and Columbia past copule of weeks.

This is why they switched: B92 was not making them money. The new B92 is as a urban station. It will be near #1 in the ratings soon. They (Apex) have made some smart switches, as 95.9 is already at over a 3 share less than 9 months into launch. That proved that oldies was a good format in the Lowcountry, as 102.5 went away from it. It is on in many offices I walk into.

WSPO is only at a .5, but they make a lot of money from commercials and have a lot of sports rights (all of Westwood One's) . Kirkman's 98.9 that they bought has been a failure. They are last in the ratings, and they have already lost Lori Niks as their sidekick, bringing in a younger lady. That signal has been hampering them. It's a great Spanish signal, but not really a good signal for many other formats.
