Bob Shannon CBS-FM

That * is * a terrific salute and acknowledgement, MJB. A big tip of the earphones to the CBS people.

Shannon, of course, was the first live DJ on mic when WCBS-FM came back on several years ago.

Terrific montage/collage of sound bytes they played that day, after their time spent as Jack-FM, before going into 'Do It Again'.

Is it just me and my aging ears, or do Bob Shannon, John Sterling of the Yankees and Rick Lewis (Friday nights) of Top Shelf Oldies sound alike, lol?

My guess is that Allan Sniffen knows good and well what has been going on up to this point. He does not probably know the eventual outcome - not even Bob knows that - My guess is that he has heard things from Bob himself. I doubt the station would giove any info. But Bob and Allan are friends so I am sure Allan knows something but he is sworn to secrecy. On his board some time back he has asked people to stop pressing the issue on his boards and most everyone has respected that. He told what he felt he could and left it at that. So with Bob out of respect for him I distance myself from this issue except to say I hope to hear him on CBS FM 2: The Sequel soon and that he recovers from whatever issues he isues having at this time. YES I WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S UP but THE PEOPLE INVOLVED DO NOT want me or anyone else to know except for people that need to know.

Hey, gang...instead of all of us speculating on this one - let's just hope and pray for a QUICK recovery for Mr. Shannon - and besides which, I gotta go with Sniffen on this one.... ;D

This thread wouldn't exist if there wasn't genuine concern for Bob Shannon....and I don't think anyone has suggested Mr. Sniffles should give up any secrets he might know.

Please do not stoop down to name calling on this board. I think Alan Sniffen has done some nice things for the community of radio enthusiasts. I am glad that he gave Bob Radil's 60s 70s show a new home. He also spent a considerable amount of time and effort preserving WABC Rewound.

The name is Sniffen not Sniffles. Yes I have to agree with Allen Sniffen on this one. If and when Bob Shannon wants us to know what is going on Allen Sniffen, Bob, and others will release the information. Meanwhile we just have to hope for a complete recovery for Bob, him to be back on CBS FM The Sequel, and we need to just wait and see. Time flies. We will all know something soon enough.

Bob is a class act. I know people who do know what's going on at the station and CBS-FM is also being a class act. Something very rare in radio, much less any business these days.

I think the bulk of the "speculation and concern" isn't out of people wanting to dig into Bob's business, but fans who want their "radio friend" back on the air. Talent like his comes along once in a blue moon, and we all want to hear him on the radio again.

As for the other guy mentioned.... eeeh. You can keep him.

Corrrect.

Bob Shannon

I know this has been discussed before. Has anyone noticed that they are not playing Bob's jingles anymore. I listened to a few hours of Ron Parker today and it seems that he no longer says "in for Bob Shannon". I know earlier on he and Joe Causi were saying this at every break. I, along with all of Bob's fans, truly hope he returns and is enjoying better health. He was missed on the anniversary weekend, although the taped show was terrific.

Re: Bob Shannon

Hopefully Bob Shannon does return one day, but if not, it would be nice to see them bring back Dan Daniel or Randy Davis for the 10am-3pm time slot.

Re: Bob Shannon

You got to be kidding about Dan Daniel, he must be 80 years old or near it. The man has had a great career, let him enjoy his retirement. Randy Davis would definately be a great choice to fill that slot.

Re: Bob Shannon

Randy Davis seems firmly ensconced with Press Broadcasting in the 1-million listener Monmouth-Ocean market at the Northern Jersey Shore.

Davis currently does mornings 5:30-AM on AC "The Breeze" and then, presumably, voice tracks 7-pm until midnight on Country Music sister-station Thunder 106.

Re: Bob Shannon

I notice the lack of references to Bob this morning. I also didn't hear Joe Causi make any mention of Ron Parker this evening, and the
"all summer long" jingle was played where the DJ jingle normally would play earlier this hour. And I did hear Broadway's jingle earlier this afternoon, so it's not just a matter of DJ jingles no longer being played. (Yes, I pay way too much attention to this stuff.) Something must be up here...

As for the suggested replacements for Bob, Randy Davis would be a good choice, and I'd think he would seriously consider leaving The Breeze/Thunder if they offered him the midday slot (unless he's under a tight contract). Alternately, this would be a good opportunity for Jim Ryan to bring Al Bernstein back to New York radio. Of course, they've got plenty of good candidates already working for them part-time - Pat St. John, Jay Sorensen, Bob Berry, and Charlie Burger to name a few. Or they could permanently move Ron Parker to middays and put one of the aforementioned names in at night.

Above all, of course, I would love to see Bob recover enough to come back on the airwaves. But I'm not sure if we can get our hopes up at this point.

Re: Bob Shannon

I assume the "in for" is up to the P.D. if it is going to get to be too cumbersome or the DJ is out for an undetermined or Extended Period I can understand the thinking...You don't want to call added attention to the fact that one of your STARS are out. The last time I filled in for an extended absent Star Jock I was told to absolutely not mention I am filling in and in addition his Name/Profile/Posts were removed from the web site.In that case it had to do with a "Family Emergency/Death in Family".

Re: Bob Shannon

Assuming this post on the NYRMB is correct, it looks like I was on to something with my suggestion of Al Bernstein. I guess they're using the overnight slot to break him in, but I'd expect him to eventually occupy either middays or evenings.
