Bob Shannon CBS-FM

NYRMB said its official, Bob will not be back and Ron will take over midday. I can not post there, but I want Bob's family to see this, Bob has not only been a DJ but a friend to me, when Mom died, my dog and cat died, my Brother-in-Law he helped me thru it all. I want to say Thanks, Bob cheered me up every Midday :) Thanks Bob!!! Please get better and God Bless. I still light those candles for you. All My Love, Mary xo

It was an honor to have met Mr. Shannon once. Truly a professional who was dedicated and in awe of the radio business. One of the greatest radio talents ever. He is sorely missed, but health does come first and is most important. We all love and miss Mr. Shannon. I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.

Still it is very strange, that no one seems to know what has happened to Bob Shannon. What sort of illness - has he suffered a stroke or something like that. It's now been more than six months, so surely someone should know something ... (??)

On another note, it seems like Ron Parker occupying the midday slot is official now - he played his jingle and referred to yourself as "your midday guy" coming out of "My Guy".

On second thought I do feel the management of WCBS-FM owes its listeners some explanation of Bob Shannon's leaving the station without invading his privacy. Most listeners don't visit radio message boards and have no idea why he left. I suggest that the station briefly announce on its web site that he had to leave the station for reasons of health. I think that would be fair to Bob and the listeners.

If it is indeed a medical issue, CBS-FM might have needed approval from Bob to announce the reason for his departure; perhaps he chose not to allow it.

Still weird to hear the Bob Shannon era on 101.1 come to a quiet, mysterious end.

There are federal laws against discussing medical conditions. Our doctor cannot even discuss my wife's condition with me!

Would be nice if Bob could post an official farewell online, or at least if CBS-FM could note that Bob is unable to continue his show due to illness and Ron Parker has taken over the slot. No need to go into further detail. But at the end of the day, Bob's privacy needs to be respected and we can only hope for the best regarding his health.

By the way, it looks like Joe Causi has officially taken over at least some of the weekday night slots. Charlie Burger has been on the last three nights, but said that he is filling in for Joe and played his jingle. It's a little odd that someone else would fill in on what appears to be his first "official" week in the slot, but there you have it. Also, Lenny Bloch appears to have taken over weekday overnights - I'm guessing it will be him on Sunday-Thursday nights (Monday-Friday mornings), with Big Jay taking the weekend overnight slots.

Now, the question is... will Joe work six nights a week? If not, I'd rather he continue to host Saturday Night 70's and have someone else do Friday nights, because Joe is really in his element on that show. But we'll see what happens.
