Punched up 103.1 in the car today and heard "El Gato." I decided I'm so bored with radio I'd try to listen to El Gato - maybe I can develop a taste for it. But I could only really stand two songs. (One seemed to be a Mexican version of Mack the Knife, with mariachi horns. Interesting!)
There are so few good stations now, that I literally have NO candidates for a new frequency to take over this preset.
i'm not trying to advertise here...but see if you dish out the $$ for satellite radio. i don't seem to get bored of it nearly as much as regular radio. i still have my ipod and mp3s but at least you can get exposed to the new stuff.
i decided 4 years ago i needed satellite since i couldn't get any rock station after i moved out of the IE to Azusa. Even though I speak fluent Spanish, I can't enjoy Spanish radio. It's not my kind of music (except a few rock songs). As more and more stations go to Spanish it bites for us who want English radio as our choices get smaller.
Ya, I agree. I got XM about 2 years ago. It was quite good. Every station had a deep, deep playlist, and there were so many great specialty shows. It was worth putting up with pretty poor sound quality. Just 10 bucks to listen online - worth it to me.
Since the merger, though, things are going downhill fast. New management only wants to play "Top 10" songs on 60s on 6, for example. I don't think they're going to survive, though as long as it's worth $10 a month, I'll stick with them. It wasn't so much a merger as a Sirius takeover.
For Indie-ish music, good online bets are:
Radio Free Phoenix
Radio Paradise
WOXY
And for my favorite, oldies, the greatest station on earth is WLNG. Playing 10,000 songs for almost 50 years straight, all songs picked live by the jocks.
