WMKK- MiKe FM
WXRV- The RiVer
WWHK- The HawK (formerly known as)
WTPL- The PuLse
WCRB- Charles River Broadcasting? or Classical Radio Boston? maybe both.
WBMX- MiX 104.1

I may be but "fuzzy" on this but I believe a couple "heritage" call letters in the Burlington market came from the names of the wives of the former owners of the stations:

WJOY (Reportedly named after the late Frank Balch's wife "Joy")
WDOT (Supposedly named after "Dot", the wife of the founder of that station when it was on 1400)

Someone more familiar with the market may be able to verify this.

Another one: WVBF in Framingham-Boston (when they flipped from WKOX-FM.) Supposedly after Virginia Fairbanks, the wife of the company's founder.

Makes me think...I'm divorced because my 'ex said I was married to radio.... DUH !! (I should have named a station after her.) Can you feel the love ??

WGUY (Guy) WGAN (Gannett)
WCSH Congress Square Hotel
WMTW Mt.Washington
WLOB the LOBster Network (I'm not kidding)
WPOR pretty obvious
WABK Abenaki
WBLM Beautiful Lewiston Maine
WLAM Lewiston Auburn Maine
WTHT "The Hits" (this was the station's slogan when it flipped from WGAN-FM)
WQDY PassamaQuoDY
WFAU WCOU (deceased) FAUst COUture - an early Maine radio station owner
WGHM (previous calls of WSKW) "Golden Heart of Maine" - very lyrical!

Not sure about WHOM. I worked there in sales for a couple of years but never heard that the calls had a meaning. I do know that the calls were in use on 1480 AM in New York City just before 94.9 picked 'em up.

Close, but my memory says it is for Carlo, Frank and Randi...Carlo Zezza being the father/owner, Frank and Randi the son/daughter

Actually, it's Carlo, Frank and Ruth - the children of Carlos Zezza who purchased WNIX and changed the calls to CFR. Frank and Ruth still live in the Springfield VT area.
