So bottom line...here's the problem with the Factoria Mall Radio Supercenter: Marc Kaye. God love him...he is often a nice enough guy, but don't trust him! He is the King in that building and his resume doesn't once mention any experience as a program director. Here is the hierarchy for Sandusky Seattle:
Norman (owner)
Marc Kaye (GM Seattle)
Everybody else

They need people in that building with some programming experience; and most importantly, the authority to make things happen without Marc signing off on every little detail! Letting Murdock, Hunter and Alice ever leave was a huge mistake. Then, Mitch and Lisa showed great promise and most likely could have been a big morning show, but Marc couldn't manage talent properly. KLSY could have easily beaten STAR in the HOT AC race, but Marc simply didn't know what to do. Mark my words...Marc will retire within 24 months and Sandusky will sell to the highest bidder. The owners have absolutely no interest in the radio business...that's why they let Marc run the place like he is King! I just hope the next poor schmuck that gets hired by Sandusky does some serious research before moving across country!

And it is true...women hate other women. The show would have a chance if it was just ONE chick, perhaps if Pat had a female co-host? But two women together...not going to work. Word is they put a part-timer in afternoons? Good luck with that.

Just curious: Where do you find your information that "women hate other women?"

Bullseye.

Kaye's involvement with KIIS-FM in their heyday plays a big role in what he does now. Since Movin' in LA is performing as well as New Coke, maybe Kaye can bring Dees up to Factoria!

And yes, there have been some nationally-known names who have been offered positions for 92.5, both in their KLSY and Movin' nom de plumes, but made phone calls and found out what really goes on there.

In my case - I just asked my wife, who's in Movin's demo. And she agrees with the "women hate women" assessment. Why? Go rent a copy of "Mean Girls" for the answer.

Bottom line - From the day of its launch to its latest move in mornings - Movin' is a textbook example of what NOT to do if you want to create a market leading radio station.

And over on Dexter Avenue and 4th Avenue they're thanking Santa Claus for this latest play to make Movin' a non-factor.

Yep

It sure didn't take Gary Nolan long to bail!!

LUCKY82:

IF YOU THINK YOU’RE FOOLING ANYONE POSTING ON THIS BOARD YOU’RE WRONG. EVERYONE KNOWS WHO YOU ARE. IT’S DAMN OBVIOUS DARLIN.

THE TRUTH IS SOME PEOPLE DECIDED TO TRASH TALK PAT TO EVERYONE ON THE STAFF @ KQMV AND UPPER MANAGEMENT STARTED ASKING QUESTIONS.

AS FOR YOUR COMMENTS ON THE MORNING SHOW, THE AFTERNOON GIRL AND RICKY: SAY WHAT YOU WANT SWEET HEART, AT LEAST THEY STILL HAVE A JOB IN MARKET 14. AND IN THIS GAME THAT’S ALL THAT MATTERS.

YOU THINK PUTTING DOWN OTHER PEOPLE IS GOING TO GET YOU TO THE TOP? [EDIT]

YOU KNOW WHERE YOU CAN REACH ME.

Regardless of who the posters on this topic, feelings were clearly hurt on both ends...the fired and the hired. It's radio. Get over it. People in this business are two-faced, and that's the way it is. Nothing is ever what it seems to be. Pat and his camp are angry, and the MOViN' camp is looking to move on. End of story.

IT WILL be interesting to see how a part-timer in afternoons plays out. IT WILL be interesting to see how two women in the morning work. And if it doesn't work, the message board war will begin again. Radio is a revolving door that constantly burns bridges. Period.

I think I may be able to speak with some authority in this matter. I have been involved in multiple perceptual research studies in multiple major markets and am well aware of the situation in Seattle having seen recent studies.

First: Women don't like women on the radio in the morning.
This is true, but only under certain format parameters. AC, Oldies and Music of Your Life are the only formats where this applies. In all other formats this perception is false. Females have had significant success in rock formats across the Country. In Country, Adult Top 40 and CHR whether a talent is male or female makes no difference. Jamie White in Denver and later LA, LD in Houston and many others prove the point. In this market, Jackie at KBKS has the highest Q rating on the KBKS, much higher than the men on the station and Monti is the only talent on KQMV that even shows up in 18-34 perceptual research. Gay talent also have strong appeal especially with women. STAR's morning show gets a boost, since one of their morning talent is percieved gay or bi, though I have it on good authority that is not the case.

Second: Pat Clark Failed
The concept of putting a night jock on mornings has been tried in multiple markets. It was used in Boston against KISS, in LA against KISS and in Dallas against KISS. In all cases the music oriented mornings were not able to beat the established brand in the market. Perceptual analysis shows T-Man as the established brand and he remained untouched by Movin's strategy. Mr Clark failed because of a poor strategy, not his shortcomings. No need for anger on either side, it is a failed strategy. This is business, not personal.

Third: Change
Change rarely happens when something is going well. There has been a massive shift 18-34 in this market in the last three months causing ripple effects. In summer, when I first began doing my initial analysis of the market KUBE, WOLF, KISW, MOVIN were the top 18-34 stations on a two book. Since that time WOLF has undergone a series of internal changes and has dropped to 8th in the recent trend. KBKS has gone with a new programming philosophy that is still moving forward and has yet to see results. KQMV after four months of poor performance has revamped its music a bit and adjusted its personality lineup. This confusion among 18-34 players has allowed KUBE to expand its lead and allowed out of demo stations; particularly STAR with its unorthodox music approach (play everything from T-land to Nickelback to Rascal Flatts) to jump to number two.

In 2008 I can say with some confidence that KQMV or KBKS will stand at the end of the day to challenge KUBE and KISW. It will be Monti against Jackie, the highest testing personalities in the young format arena and I have it on good authority that both are women. (that was a programmer joke) They are clearly women with different styles and will battle to take on T-Man.

Monti: I moved to a smaller market to get better so I can EARN my place in a market as big as Seattle. Unheard of, I know. But as you've exemplified, it's all about $$ and market size. Thought you were a better person than that. Guess not. And as far as putting people down...isn't that what you just did? If telling the truth is putting people down, so be it. You should really watch what you say to people, whom you say it to and who you say it about...if you're going to go against it later, it makes you a less credible person. Being honest is a much better philosophy.

It's definitely interesting to see your true colors come out...I'm sorry, I forget that you're used to having sunshine blown at you by mommaknowsbest. Heaven forbid I should call you out on something shady that you were a part of.

All I have to say is GOOD LUCK...and I actually mean that. I'd have thought that by this time you'd realize that they didn't know what they wanted when they hired their first "morning show." And they STILL don't know what they want...if they wanted two women, they would've done that in the first place. Prove us all wrong...prove that it works.

Karma sucks, by the way. Goodnight and Good luck. It's not even worth the energy.

Right on, lucky82! Your post shows who really "knows best". Monti will be lucky to be playing third rate comedy clubs after the skewering she's about to get trying to do a major market morning show.

Sounds like someone is VERY jealous. Poor Lucky. Jealousy is a real Biatch, isn't it?

Jealous of what?

Fact of the matter is, Movin' is slowly sinking, and I sincerely doubt they have an answer to stop it. They hired a morning show not knowing what to do with him. Not exactly the sign of a station that knows how to take things to another level.

So Pat's been fired, a new morning show is in place, announcement already made in the PI, yet do you think Movin' is even promoting their new show on their website? This truly shows that the powers to be over there have absolutely no idea how to successfully run a station.

How about getting word out about your new show and letting visitors to your website know exactly what to expect and when to expect it. Instead Monti and whatever other gal they hired are already at a disadvantage as they try to build an audience.

Then a year later, they'll sit back and wonder what went wrong. Get with it people!

Women don't hate women [EDIT]
They hate co-hosts, side kicks, news girls, traffic babes and all the dumb down positions white old men have created for them. Terrestrial radio is a goner so say good bye to the good old days. Women love empowered supported women. Duh.

When has radio supported women the same as men? Contracts? Equipment? Staff (ie give the morning drive A WOMAN a producer, writer etc) and most of all TIME TO SUCCEED AS THEY DO MEN?

As far as Movin goes-a day late and a buck short. too bad.

If I'm wrong then why do women love women on TV?
Why do women love celebrities?
Why do women love their female Doctors, and local professionals?
Why do we love the local personalities not on radio???

It's because most progressive industries have changed with the times and radio has gone to voice tracks. Brilliant.

[EDIT-namecalling]

IMO, the real problem is that Movin' isn't a real format. Alan Burns spends his days coming up with these ridiculous niche formats that are as disposable as Handi-Wipes. Desperate GMs at struggling stations buy his horse & pony show, sign up and are often initially delighted at seeing the numbers move up. The numbers move up because most stations signing on with the Burns format-de-jour are - as I said - desperate and their numbers stink. ANYTHING different will get initial listener interest. Once listeners realize how boring and derivative stupid stuff like Movin' is, they leave in droves. Burns has cashed his check and moves on to the next sucker, leaving behind a smoking ruins and causing a lot of pain for a lot of radio guys. Unlike the displaced DJs, Alan stays right where he is and begins dreaming up another slick "format" with a groovy name that some gullible GM will snap at sooner or later and the entire cycle starts over.

I'm always sorry to see the name "Alan Burns" appear in any market because it always means failure, chaos and fired DJs. His whole shtick is anti-personality, anti-entertainment and concentrates on elaborate rotations, clocks and a good quanity of smoke and mirrors.

Do you get the feeling I'm not a fan of the guy?

While these boards are a great and (sometimes) healthy way to communicate ;D
In ten years, this discussion will be moot, radio (as we know it) will go the way of magnetic tape.

Sad, true

Look for employment elsewhere, unless something changes (and it won't, decision makers in the radio industry could slide into doing mortgages(no offense to mortgage folks ;)) or something unrelated tomorrow without batting an eyelash)...buh bye...

like the record industry, you only have yourselves to blame for your downfall

For the record, don't worry...jealousy is not an issue. Just utter disgust at the piss poor handling of a situation that should have never been in the first place. And, as I have already expressed... shock at the 180 degree turn of somebody that presented themself to be a better person than what they became. Ya ya think you know someone...

MOViN' is doomed. Period. I give it 6 months before they blow out this show, too. I'm sorry....and I AM aware that this is the future of radio at this point...but that station is tracked left and right...in market 14? That's a great way to promote the future. Nobody will grow or learn, just so "The Man" has his convenience of not having to pay anybody. And YES, women hate women...IN PACKS. I know this because I AM a woman in radio, ALONE. Pat would've worked better if they would've allowed him to either a) have a co-host, or b) let Reiny take the reins as his co-host. There would've have been girl power there...but a solid counter-opinion. Women like women on the radio that have male sidekicks, or that are ALONE...the object is to be your best friend. Which is why I was hired where I am now...be the listener's best friend. Two women = Mean Girls = Every bad memory of high school most chicks have. I'd like to meet a woman that doesn't believe this. We hate women that move in packs together...women alone are less threatening.

The whole "feel good" theory? Awesome on paper, not so great in real life. Look at the state our world is in right now...recession, war, bad health care, school shootings, extreme debt...while we'd like to believe that everything is coming up roses, it's not. This is just my personal experience, but I've found that listeners want to hear about all of the grimy crap going on with celebrities so they feel less forlorn about their own lives. They WANT to talk about the crappy things that happened to them. They want to hear that YOU TOO had a bad day. They don't want sunshine blown up their a**. And that doesn't mean to perform depressing radio...BE REAL. That's just from my experience.  There's a small handful of listeners that want more music, less talk...the rest of them are used to a morning "show." Whether they want it or not, that's what they expect.

The bottom line is that it sucks for everybody that puts some much work on a daily basis into that station...it has a great promotions and sales team, some potentially AMAZING on-air talent...but nobody has room to grow. The suits don't know how to make the format succeed...and a lot of great people are going to suffer because of a novice idea that they can't execute.
