He won't be.I don't know Mike Rogers' political bent, but he never sounded hard right on the air before so maybe his show won't be as political.

I would disagree that Dallas weather is mostly good. 😀The All-News format does have a more adult-appeal. But as we see from the yearly BIA reports, it produces great billing. WTOP Washington is by far the nation's top billing station. WINS, WBBM and WCBS are in the top 10. KNX, KYW and KCBS are in the top 20. WBZ is among Boston's top billing stations and WWJ is among Detroit's top billing stations. Along with KTCK, KHKS and KRLD-FM, I'm sure KRLD is also among Dallas' top billers too!
But as said above, it's an expensive format to do well. And for whatever reason, it struggles in the Sunbelt. Is it that too many listeners are from somewhere else with less interest in local news? If the weather is nice most of the year, you are less inclined to seek out "traffic and weather together"?
In the last decade or so, attempts were made to launch All-News stations in Atlanta and Houston on FM. They failed. Miami had an all-news station that even used call letters similar to WINS, called WINZ. It also failed. Above, Mark Roberts recounts when KTRH Houston was all-news except overnight. Gradually it was transitioned to all-talk.
KNX is the only long-term successful All-News station in the Sunbelt. Through all the decades, the format has never lasted too long where the sun shines brightly.
These stations think the news audience wants conservative talk. My take is it chases the audience away to KERA
With WBAP’s drop, I think people may want conservative talk, but not the far right talk that WBAP seems to provide. According to the Media Bias/Fact Check website, WBAP is one of the least credible media outlets in the metroplex:Today, the radio ratings came out. KRLD is the last place station in Dallas, while KERA jumped up 2 shares to #1.
Also, the FM simulcast hasn't helped WBAP. It's also down in the ratings.

WBAP is 100% pro-Far Right in terms of political talk and the only thing that's trust worthy about the station is their top notch radio coverage of severe weather events, if they lost Brad Barton and stop doing EAS alerts with live people doing the alerts and instead relay the EAS alerts from NOAA Weather Radio, then they lose their remaining listeners who's political views is middle/center, liberal or conservate but not far rightWith WBAP’s drop, I think people may want conservative talk, but not the far right talk that WBAP seems to provide. Well, summer ratings for news and talk are usually lower in July and August. (KERA is the exception.) Let's see what happens to KRLD and WBAP when the kids are back to school, everyone is back to work and the election is heating up.Today, the radio ratings came out. KRLD is the last place station in Dallas, while KERA jumped up 2 shares to #1.

Hint: Conservatives are also news junkies.
DFW as a whole is right-leaning, but Dallas proper is very blue and Tarrant County is only light red. The northern counties are red but growing less so. Ellis County is ruby red.I'd say Dallas is a little of everything. It's still overall conservative but not the level that makes the news.
I feel that WBAP keeps heading further right and this is causing some of the more moderate conservatives to tune out. I may be wrong, but that’s what I suspect. I was referring to WBAP’s listeners and not people as a whole. But I’m sure a lot of conservatives would also enjoy just talk and not political talk 24/7.People want talk. That's why KERA is #1 in Dallas, and why WBAP and KRLD are dropping.
For what it's worth, I don't think the political leanings of an area have anything to do with which talk shows or stations are popular. It would only matter if it was VERY lopsided (90%+ in one direction) which is rarely the case.DFW as a whole is right-leaning, but Dallas proper is very blue and Tarrant County is only light red. They didn't have a good plan to replace Rush Limbaugh
I presume KRLD is trying talk because its cheaper than news and might improve ratings in certain time periods.
