Yes, but what Salem property are they going to feed it with? I guess they could simulcast AM 880 there also - just saying if it's going to originate its own source and Salem isn't going to 'lease' someone else's HD then 98.9 is pretty much it.

Interesting transition out of My 92.9 - fade out mid song into Spanish!
That would be assuming Salem continues to still own the translator. If they sell it (and they likely will) it's on the buyer to find another program source, which is absolutely doable.
Translators can change program sources as long as they weren't applied for during the third and fourth filing windows for AM translators. Those translators are tied to AM stations for life and can only be switched to another AM. The translators that were moved-in as a result of the first and second AM windows can be changed but only after they've rebroadcast the original AM station for four years. iHeart has taken advantage of that in numerous markets. If a translator owner chooses to rebroadcast another FM rather than an AM or HD2/3/4 it typically results in a serious power reduction.
It's going to be interesting to see what Salem does in Columbus; seems like fire sales left and right.
So 92.9 and 1580/1550 have yet another new format in the area. I'm interested to see if it lasts.

I am well aware how translators work - but I basically was trying to say I don't see Salem paying to lease someone else's HD when they have their own transmitter to do so.
Truthfully I can see Salem possibly existing Columbus. They don't exactly how the best signals here - 98.9's their best property and it's a Class A. 880 is a Daytimer and 104.5's translator has pattern challenges due to other signals.
Salem would have exited the market years ago but a sale many years ago to WCVO didn't happen and they held onto WRFD. It would have been interesting to know who would have ended up with 98.9 if that had happened (I bet you it would not be "The Answer" as it is today). Their stay here was only because they were able to get 98.9 from Radio One and then Percy's translator at 95.9 to launch a Fish here and the "move in" of 104.5 so WRFD AM 880 could have an FM signal.
Honestly someone like NABCO would be smart to pick up 95.9 - they could pair it with WMNI or they could break off another HD channel from WJKR and feed it that way and give them another format here in Columbus.
That's a good point. With another translator, NABCO could feed it from their WJKR HD3 (which is currently WMNI) and do away with WMNI entirely. The land where their towers sit has to be worth more than they could cash flow from an AM station for the rest of this century.

In simple terms, My 92.9 is gone as a format. The new Spanish Tropical format is a stunt, but it's a stunt for a Regional Mexican format coming in April. Delmar doesn't operate it anymore, but they still own the station.
So this is to compete with 103.1/107.1? Is there really a strong enough market here for 2 competing terrestrial Spanish language radio stations? Seems like a very strange choice but that's just me.
It seems more like Mega is just a little more all over the place compared to the original La Grande at 102.5. Maybe 92.9 will pull enough listeners from Mega and advertiser cash to survive, maybe it won't. We won't know for sure until it launches.

Plenty of market! I’m actually going to have 2 Spanish stations soon so the market will have 3 Spanish stations .
I wonder where even the few who called got the phone number. It would take a listener who didn't know the owner (and I doubt many did) a good bit of detective work. It's easy to get a result for Delmar's Classic Hits station by Googling "phone number for 96.7 Columbus" or "phone number for 96.7 Delaware." Not so for 92.9. You mostly come up with stuff for the late WWCD. And are calls to Delmar regarding 92.9 being routed to you? And if you're giving a number on air, it's in Spanish, right?
EDIT: Looks like the 3rd Google result for "my 92.9 columbus phone number" give Delmar's number.
