CUMULUS keeps ignoring "Super Bass" !

Bad Meets Evil is an Eminem side project...And Eminem has shown to test well with adults recently...To use my Radio Now example in Milwaukee...I would not be surprised to see Bad Meets Evil on thier playlist...they are not adverse to playing rap...in fact they are open to it...as long as it won't alienate thier adult listeners. They play LMFAO and have had Lupe Fiasco in powers for awhile now.

I guess the Eminem thing makes sense, in that he's familiar - but I can't believe that LMFAO and Lupe are testing better with adults than Super Bass - To me, Super Bass is a lot more "mature" than Party Rock Anthem...(and it's got a lot more "substance" to it...)

The only line of reasoning I can think of is that Cumulus figures that people can hear Super Bass on Urban/Rhythmic, but it's their job to play LMFAO since it's the only place people are gonna hear it

For those who complain about recurrents. I'd rather here those every once in a while than the same song every 1 and a half hours. I haven"t heard Super Bass yet probably because the CHR here in Columbus,Ohio plays the same tune every 1.5 hours.

I guess my complaint is that the station I'm referring to still plays "Forget You" (I never want to hear that song again!) or "Written In The Stars" more, or maybe just as often, as something like "The Edge Of Glory" or "Party Rock Anthem", both of which are current, big hits. It doesn't really make sense, but like I said, who am I to gripe...they do well.

WFBC in Greenville/Spartanburg is friendly towards some adult songs (Keep Your Head Up, for one) and has Super Bass in heavy rotation.

That's cause there's no Hot AC or competing CHR though - they don't have to worry as much about people changing the station

*Never mind. My comment was already made by someone further down the page from the original post, had I read that far yet.*

Is the heritage CHR in Houston, TX that Cumulus owns playing Super Bass? Also regarding that CHR its above Hot 95.7 the new CHR in the market owned by CBS Radio.

I didn't see "Super Bass" on KRBE's list on yes.com. However, Hot 95.7 has it as their #1 song.

I agree that LMFAO does not sound more mature then "Super Bass"...However I do know a number of adults who do like "The Show Goes On"...they are all casual listeners though...The song annoys me, but I think that is because I am a huge music fan (all genres)...I can clearly hear the Modest Mouse "float On" connection. I always thought that song deserved more CHR acceptance at the time. It was a great song and catchy.

Milwaukee's Radio Now just started increasing spins for "Super Bass". I may have mislead The station...they are not Hot AC leaning in anyway...they try to play all the big hits. when you hear the station you know it's CHR. They are just more likely to increase spins for a song like "Never Gonna Leave This Bed" before "Super Bass" or add a song like Matt Nathanson's "Faster" before the new Lil Wayne.

Just like "Super Bass" Radio Now did not start to increase spins for LMFAO till it reached the top 5. Although once they added "The Show Goes On" it quickly moved into powers...

Radio Now is "protecting" V100. That's why they don't spin a lot of Urban stuff. I remember when they completely ignored "Black & Yellow" earlier this year and they didn't spin "Pretty Girl Rock", "The Show Goes On" or "Down On Me" until they started falling at Urban radio

Are they STILL not playing it? This one seems so obvious to me. Such a great hook, very pop friendly. IMO one of the best songs of any format in 2011 so far.

J. Rob you are correct...Radio Now is protecting v100. The station however is also stradling in between WMYX and WXSS in hopes of grabbing listeners from both stations. IMO it appears to be working both stations have been knocked down a peg in the ratings. It also appears the other channels are responding. The once extremly rhythmic leaning WXSS is now sounding more mainstream and WMYX appears to be more current base. Which is good for competition since both stations were able to rest on their laurels before...being sister stations.

By the way...although Black and Yellow was ignored..."Pretty Girl Rock" was spun.

Really?? I understand it is your opinion; however, perhaps you should listen a little more closely to what's on the radio and what's NOT on the radio.

I listen to a very wide range of music from commercial to the obscure and have for decades. I can seperate what is technically good quality music from what makes a great radio hit. CHR is ear candy. In the context of what the format is "Super Bass" stands out to me as an excellent song. It doesn't come across as too extreme or too hip hop compared to many many other hits. I don't understand what Cumulus is thinking on this one.

Females love this song.
While I generally believe the old "what you don't play, can't hurt you", in this case, it probably can. Especially if you have a competitor in your market that IS playing the song. You're now alienating females. Bravo Jan, bravo. Stay in touch with that demo old man, you're doing a fantastic job!

As for right now, the only time you will hear "Super Bass" on the Cumulus CHRs is if they air weekend mix shows or Open House Party. I would think that they will rectify this soon. They should be playing "How To Love" and let all of their CHRs play "She Ain't You," not just a few of the stations and not just restricting it on the other stations to Billy Bush.

If it wasn't for WWVA Atlanta, "Super Bass" would've been unknown (as a major hit) to many Atl'iens. V103 gives it spins every now and then at random times throughout the week, but... not sure how long it will last on the nation's #1 urban format. I guess WWVA can be thanked for introducing the New Boyz, Dev, Flo Rida ft Nicki Minaj....etc. as well.
