CUMULUS keeps ignoring "Super Bass" !

Dkampy said:
J. Rob you are correct...Radio Now is protecting v100. The station however is also stradling in between WMYX and WXSS in hopes of grabbing listeners from both stations. IMO it appears to be working both stations have been knocked down a peg in the ratings. It also appears the other channels are responding. The once extremly rhythmic leaning WXSS is now sounding more mainstream and WMYX appears to be more current base. Which is good for competition since both stations were able to rest on their laurels before...being sister stations.

By the way...although Black and Yellow was ignored..."Pretty Girl Rock" was spun.

I've noticed this. They're currently spinning the hell out of "If I Die Young", a song that definitely would've been ignored by them if it a came out a year or two ago.

If Cumulus CHR's won't bother playing some top rated songs why does Cumulus bother programing the format then?

They should at least give their stations some local control over the playlist.

Cumulus should start searching for buyers for when they take control of Citadel's CHR's. That way heritage CHR's like WPRO, WSSX won't go to crap.

There's only 2 Cumulus-owned CHRs that I know of that play "Super Bass" in regular rotation. Ironically, one of those stations is actually on the Hot A/C panel!
The 2 stations are I-106 Nashville and Q-98 Fayetteville.

That's why I keep asking why these stations have PD's? What on earth do they do?

F10 and print.

Yes, WQSM in North Carolia is one of the two cumulus stations that added SUPER BASS. But the station is on the hot ac panel. What a mess!!!

^I didn't realize Cumulus was letting WNFN/Nashville go out on its own like that (they've added a lot of Rhythmic-leaning stuff that none of their other CHRs are playing, and their spin counts for a lot of Rhythmic-leaning songs are a lot higher) - so I guess the Q100-mold isn't an absolute thing

WQSM/Fayetteville NC has to be on the HAC panel BTW cause their spin counts are so low (power is around 47x a week)

WQSM's power spins are low by CHR standards, but there are stations on the CHR/Pop panel with low spin counts, and are more Adult leaning sounding than Q-98.
A perfect example is Cumulus-owned Q-94 Beaumont.
Macon's B95.1 (another Cumulus CHR) has its top song with 52 spins.

Unfortunately that's too hard to ask for Cumulus. It's gonna be a disaster once this deal gets approved for the Citadel CHRs. You can chalk this up as the biggest victory Clear Channel has ever witnessed.

Hot 92 Harrisburg is also much more Rhythmic leaning than most other Cumulus CHRs, especially when it comes to the station's selection of Golds and Recurrents.
For the most part though, it does still seem like Cumulus loves to centrally program nearly all of its CHRs.
If all their stations had the kind of freedom to musically program their stations, to truly be able to pick and choose which records to add, and how often to play them, then we obviously wouldn't be having this discussion.

Amen. I couldn't agree with you more. That's my main dissatisfaction with Cumulus CHRs in general. Every market, whether Top 20 or small-market status (and everything in between), have different tastes. We all don't want to hear the same play list in every market that has (or had) a CHR owned and operated by Cumulus.

Although I don't have that problem in Market 11 (Detroit), I still feel the pain others are feeling with Cumulus and the way most of their CHRs are programmed....

(...of course, with the exception of WNFN-Nashville as Atlantaboy pointed out and Hot 93 Pittsburgh as CHRles pointed out as well)

I heard a story once where Jan Jefferies refused to add a bona fide top five pop hit a few summers back on ANY Cumulus station because in one of their largest CHR markets, that label had partnered with their direct competitor for a major concert by a completely different artist; so he took umbrage and took it out on the label by never adding or spinning the other band's song one single solitary time it was on the chart. Can't confirm it, but chart history assuredly could...

Oh man! I'm jealous!

I mean, I don't have that problem in Phoenix, either, but my days of living in Phoenix are rapidly coming to a close. This whole summer actually is passing by too quickly - I'm actually a little unhappy with how fast time is flying!

I know, I'm one spoiled "kid" living in the Phoenix CHR market!

KMVA, KZZP, KZON, and even KKFR and KPKX... There was a time (not so long ago, by the way) when I could only dream of having TWO chr's (or similar formats) that I truly loved in my own town! ... ...

Are you talking about Metro Station's "Shake It"?

I wouldn't put it past me if this was true.

So whatever label Metro Station was on partnered up with Star 94? Lol what a great story... ;D

The Billy Bush CHR nights sound of the Cumulus stations is what they should be sounding like in afternoons. During nights they should be even more Current based and more fun! Think Open House Party, Jackson Blue, Club Kane, any of those types of shows.
Nights need to be hyped up, interactive, and are the time of day to play all the hottest new releases, and all the big hits on Itunes, Youtube, Billboard Hot 100, and CHR/Pop chart that relate to the CHR audience.
Unfortunately Cumulus doesn't deliver on that. They are, however, lucky to have some good morning shows in Atlanta and Houston as well as in some of their smaller markets.
