CUMULUS keeps ignoring "Super Bass" !

Q100 started playing Super Bass last week or earlier, I believe.

Question about Cumulus CHR's: how many of the smaller market ones have Rick Dees on mid-days or afternoons? How does he do that? I know some of their Hot AC's do also, as well as the "Journey" stations. He's getting kinda up there for CHR....

Probably tracked like Ryan Seacrest.

9 Cumulus stations added Super Bass today - Q100 wasn't one of them though lol

I was on the Gulf Coast over the weekend and I didn't hear it on I-100, though I'll admit it wasn't exactly my station of choice while I was down there.

Rick Dee's is on middays at Cumulus AC KMAJ Majic 107.7 in Topeka KS. I forgot his show is custom made for AC ,Hot AC and Top 40 radio.

So now all that's left to do is figure out why Hot 97 in New York isn't playing it! :D

That remains a mystery to me. You would think the #1 market in the U.S woul be all over this as they were with her other hits (especially "Check It Out" with will.i.am).

Some are saying it's payola......others are saying it's a "corporate decision"......I don't know what side to believe on this one.....

On the topic of Saturday Nights and Q100 BTW, they added a "Saturday Night Q" dancemix show, I guess either last night or the week before

Or worse whoever is programs the station doesn't like the song and won't let his employees play it.

Which begs the question.....if the competition is playing it (ie. Power 105, Z-100, NOW FM and KTU) and it's testing extremely well in the market, then WHY, as a program director, are you deciding what gets played and what doesn't? Because you don't like a particular song all of a sudden you say "No, do not play this, even if it cracks the Top 10"?

Personal taste does NOT fare well for any radio station, ESPECIALLY IN THE NUMBR ONE MARKET IN ALL OF AMERICA. There is a such thing as "turning down the volume when it comes on".....but some people don't understand that.......

^I can't believe that any commerical radio PD would ever use personal taste in deciding what songs to add - you might as well be throwing money out the window...

I can't believe it either. It sounds way too fishy for me.....if Power 106 in L.A. is playing it (they are notorious for burning sngs out the frame last I checked), and they too are ownd by Emmis, then why isn't Hot 97 all over this track? They're (technically) a Rhythmic contemporary station according to Medibase, and from all the Rhythmics I've heard (regardless of owner), they're all on Super Bass.

Again, from my perspective, it could be payola. In the worse case scenario (which I'm hoping it's not), it could be the PD. For Emmis' sake, the latter better not be what's going on.

Where I live before WNCI got bought by Clear Channel they used to be very selective about songs. If they were still owned by Nationwide Communications this song would probably not get airplay. In the 90's they were horrible at this. Columbus is still a 1 CHR city.

Yeah I just looked it up, and Super Bass hit #1 on the Rhythmic chart, and 82/83 stations are currently playing it - for the station in NYC to be skipping it is REALLY strange

HOT 97 is a misclassified radio station. If you look at their playlist, they're actually more of an Urban than a Rhythmic. Run their "Not Playing" report sometime... as of this post, they are NOT playing SEVEN of the top eleven records in the Rhythmic format.

One of my PD's back in the day mid-2000's totally ignored CHR hits he personally didn't like. We weren't allowed to play Unwritten or Scars or Sexy Back because they "weren't real hits" and didn't believe stations were playing them as much as they said they were. It was only until a consultant came to town and they went out to a club that was playing Sexy Back and the reaction of the crowd proved we could play Sexy Back...at night...
