EMF buys 97.7

With a 100,000 watt powerhouse signal that covers the entire market, wouldn't it be more wise to put something that isn't a flanker?

The 4th top 40 isn't a flanker?

I don't recall suggesting another Top 40 for 106.7. You were talking about KTXK hurting KZEP to protect KCYY and KONO, the very definition of a flanker.

91.3's coverage is not all that. It's tower is southwest of SA toward Devine. Adding 97.7 on the other side of town as a simulcast will give it coverage East and NE of SA.

BTW-- $1 Million? Somebody took a bath on this. $1M doesn't come close to covering even the design costs of moving the signal out of Cuero.

KLTO-FM (97.7 FM) is a radio station licensed to McQueeney, Texas, USA, the station serves the San Antonio area with a Pop format. The station is currently owned by Univision Radio.[1]
[edit] History

The station broadcast a Reggaeton format until 2008, then changed to rock. It broadcast the rock format branded as 977 Rock until 2011.

On February 4th 2011, the station changed formats to top 40 - now branded Party 97.7. The station's direction leans towards Dance but plays the usual Top 40/CHR fare similar to rivals KXXM and KTFM. It is being rebroadcast on KBBT HD2, probably to widen it's coverage area.

On August 15, 2011, Univision sold KLTO to Educational Media Foundation, which plans to flip the station to a Christian Contemporary format after the sale is completed.

What will happen to KBBT HD2? Will Univision keep the Top40 on that channel, at least? Or will they change it to something else,

Or maybe they'll remove that channel altogether. I wouldn't want this to happen as it'll just give us HD radio listeners one less channel to listen to.

The coming weeks/months should be interesting. The Party has a descent following for a rimshot station. I'm curious to see if Univision tweaks 98.5 playlist or if Cox blows up 106.7 again, for Top 40. Party has a larger cume than 106.7. The kicker is that this a rimshot station up against a full coverage market station.
The issue is that KTKX has put a hurt on KZEP in 25-54 (no one sells 6+ cume). If they blow up KTKX, KZEP could go back to #1 and beat KONO and Y100. Cox is smart to have it where it is.

Radioresearcher, I respect what you are saying but here's a quote from W. Scott Bailey from today's San Antonio Business Journal-

Rock didn’t fair so well in San Antonio, once known as the heavy metal capital of the world.
He's referring to the numbers that were recently released.

Isn't KISS struggling? Also, anyone know how KTKX is billing? 160 mins commercial doesn't sound like too many advertisers.

Posted by: davi78239-Maybe just maybe the party's format will take over a struggling univision station?? I mean I'm sure they know of 97.7 success as top 40 so for them to just throw in the towel like they did tells me they probably have something up there sleeves already.

I'll be surprise if Univision doesn't have something up it's sleeve but who knows. I think to certain degree, Univision is a little surprise with the numbers Party has been able to pull.

Well KISS's numbers have been going down since they tweaked the format to throw in classic rock tunes. Didn't make any sense. There's lots of AOR stuff from the 90s-00s they could bring back but their playlist is so tight and repetitive.

Everyone keeps saying "this is a rhythmic town" or "this is a rock town." Why can't it just be "this town has a diverse taste in music?"

Does KZLV originate any programming from Lytle/SA outside of the required public service stuff? Do they insert local underwriting announcements?

Occasionally some "local" spots and an events calendar, however I believe these are recorded and produced in California.

Any word of when the Party will end? Sad to see the station being sold. Too many christian operators in the area.

If there is one thing I like about traveling to Mexico is the lack of christian networks like "K-Love". Props on the Mexico Radio TV website BTW Fred. It's a great guide and I use it every time I go south of the border. Lord knows how you keep it updated. (How DO you keep it updated if you don't mind me asking?)

Well since they just annouced the sale publically.. I would say within 60-90 days EMF will take over.. That's usually about the time frame.

The site has a solid fan base among working radio & TV professionals in Mexico. They provide me with the updates in their markets. Listeners also report changes they spot.

I will have to check out those new frequencies in Celaya and Leon soon. Hopefully they will make it past the mountains so I can receive them. It is just mind blowing how you have the logos and websites up instantly. Good job.

It seems The Party's already done away with the Party Mix :(

No more real Partying with that station.

It's just a matter of time when Party starts directing listeners to The Beat or a temporary simulcast of The Beat on 97.7.

They need to start saying something soon, or start simulcasting the beat. Their playlist is even getting stale now.

They're really advertising 98.5 on 97.7 now. The other day I heard a message telling everyone to check out 98.5 HD2.
And Xavier's World's all over Party's Facebook page.

I even saw a mention of Xavier DJing on 97.7, but I can't confirm this as I'm not in San Antonio at the moment, thus can't hear it. I wish they would've gotten a stream/website back when they started up.

Hmmm....They're really pushing 98.5 Morning Show on Party 97-7. I guess the thinking is if they tune in the morning then listeners will remain listening throughout the day. In theory, it sounds great but when Drex ruled the airwaves, KTFM soon found out that once The Drex Show was over, so were the number of people tuning in.

I'm curious to see if Cox blows up one of their stations and gets into the Top 40 race again. Cume wise Party has more listeners than X106.7 and not too far from KISS. Not bad for rimshot station.

Cox tried top 40 back in 2003 and failed miserably with it. I see them sticking with the current format on 106.7 to drive more people from KZEP. Party has more listeners than Kiss and X106.7? I'll believe it when I see your proof.

Umm...I'm not here to prove anything to you or anyone else. Do some research if your wanting proof.

Also, what happened in 2003 is a lot different than what's currently taking place in the Top 40 world...get freakin clue.

Here is a email from EMF's Sarah Outman on the future plans for 97.7:

Artie,

Every letter is important to us. I apologize for the delay in responding to you. We've received a high volume of email from our listeners recently and are catching up as quickly as possible.

If all goes according to the schedule our Signal Development Team and Engineers have, K-LOVE should be on the air in San Antonio on 97.7 FM soon, praying for a mid-November turn of the switch to be on the air.

If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

In His Service,

Sarah Outman
Correspondence Assistant

Why another K-love? Why don't they do air one rock or something? They already have 91.3 and 106.3.
