End of P&K????

This is too bad. I can't say I have listened to P&K in a while, nor 105.3 for that matter. But I spent many an hour listening to them. I was listening to P&K overnights when they first started for Chicago. Their show was actually much more entertaining back then because they had few restrictions, could talk about what they wanted and could cover a topic for 2 hours if they desired.

The last few years they became hardly listenable by me because everything was overpackaged, overproduced, they couldn't really do anything for more than a segment. It just became more normal pablum that you get from any radio channel out there.

So I hope they do end up back on their feet wherever they go, as I got a lot of enjoyment out of them over the years. Just not much in the last few.

I would say Gavin Spittle the Program Directing Wonder Boy has to be on his way out. If not, CBS clearly doesn't care, because I think Gavin has done a very poor job with the station and essentially just managed to ride coattails. Whenever a tough decision had to be made, he seemingly has not made good ones.

The incessant chatter vis-a-vis P&K is indicative of the people's willingness to listen to anything they deem worth aside from reading the Fry's ads in the Sunday paper.

I'm guessing that the no-talent hacks are gone permanently. Too, if this kind of crap can pass as talent in the #5 market, we will continue to see the phenomenom of ETR, i.e., the "exiting of terrestrial radio."

For the record, it is not 11,000 people reading this and "really caring" about P&K, it is about 20 of us who like to continue to read the topic as it unfolds... Another reason there have been so many posts is becasuse you like several others were sent to join and post (This being you very first post!) Pro P&K crap... The ratings showed they have no following and they are done in this market.... Hooray!

You've got us nailed. P&K activated the emergency beacon that alerts the "P&K Internet Rangers." We're a tiny but determined band of loyal listeners tasked to spam this board in support of Pugs and Kelly. When not busy posting here we act as part of Barack Obama's 400 paid bloggers.

I mostly listen to satellite radio, so I missed all the P&K drama, and only heard about it when I read that Russ was arrested (the RMS is the only thing I do listen to on terrestrial radio).

Radio stations promote the heck out of underperforming shows just to create a buzz. Listeners hear the name of the show and after a while decide to check it out. That's why KLLI listeners did not hear or see a lot of promotion for the Russ Martin Show. Russ regularly would go through the Arbitron ratings and P&K would rarely get out of the middle. Not bad, but not great either. It's like throwing mud at a wall, something's got to stick.

This is one of the reasons I stay with satellite. If Russ was syndicated on satellite, I would have no reason to listen to KLLI or any other terrestrial station.

Sorry Baroness, its more than coincidental you find this post and express yourself. P&K sent the word out like any media person (in their case I say that term very loosely) to drum up support for their cause.

So, using your logic we can assume you were dispatched here to talk down P&K. Just who sent you? It obviously isn't possible for you to form your own opinion.

For the record, I don't expect them to come back on the air here in DFW. i just wanted to express my disappointment in the show coming to an end. Where else but on boards like this can the average listener express an opinion and stand a chance of ir being heard by radio professionals? If the public doesn't speak up we will get stuck with more dancing monkey radio programs like Stern or O&A.

Hey Albert, all we have to do is look at all of your posts, they are all...(ALL 12) about P&K, and attacking Gavin, Hmmmm I don't know why we would think you are part of the show, or a family member...

Ok. I first heard of this board a couple of years ago when Russ Martin was mocking it on his program. I looked it over back then, but since I'm not that interested in radio chat I didn't subscribe. Fast forward to a few days ago when it broke that the P&K Show was off the air. Since it was the only radio show I actually enjoyed (outside of NPR, that is) I felt the desire to express my opinion on this matter. So I signed up here.

Now, while it is true I joined the board in support of the show only an idiot would make the illogical conclusion that I am in any way, shape or form connected to Pugs & Kelly, their show, their families, or any foreign or domestic subsidiaries thereof. In other words, your detective skills suck, Sherlock

Ahh yes, ignorance is bliss. It is quite common around these here parts for people to sign up and do exactly as you have. Most of them vanish quickly after one or two posts. But the intended purpose is to make whomever is being talked about look good. Since you haven't been around much, you might not know this.

Well, personally sockpuppetry isn't my thing. I have made more posts about this than I originally anticipated but the damn thread just keeps going. If 105.3 or P&K would cough up some sort of explanation to the fans I could go back to not giving a rat's ass.

Well what did you expect... The thread would die a quick death?

Has anyone heard where they have been for almost 3 weeks?

Are they coming back to the air anytime soon?
My sources say they're playing "hardball" with their contract negotiations!

I am so unhappy. Its obvious that with or without comment from the station P & K are gone. I loved their show. I thought they were fresh and when allowed they had good content. I liked the personal growth segments, they were pretty fun. I think that Gavin helped and also hurt. When he came on board they were a bit scattered and so his influence was helpful in that regard, but he took it too far and quashed their creative flow.

I cried my eyes out when Pugs and Jessica lost the baby. Kelly irritated me a bit with talk about her cookie business and self serving relationship stories, but I still liked her. Basically, I feel like I've lost a couple of friends in a tragic accident without having the opportunity to say goodbye.

Now we're stuck with BDH? Ugh. I liked him when he'd occasionally sit in with Pugs or Kelly, but on his own he just grates on me. For one, Wild Ass Circus is the stupidist name for a show I've ever heard and it bears no relation to his content. He has such a pedantic, monotone, slow way of speaking that he could have strippers setting midgets on fire and it would sound like a documentary news program.

And oh good gracious, please don't let them put Dan O'Malley anywhere near primetime radio. He sucks so bad even on the few days that he just fills in. I can't imagine that Russ Martin really thinks he's good enough to have his own show even though he always put Tahos [or whatever his name is] down as the drag on their show.

And WHY oh WHY is Russ Martin still getting high ratings??? I have been listening to him for several years and in the beginning I loved it, but they've been rehashing the same stories for the last 2 to 3 years almost word for word. Anyone not heard the baseball story? How 'bout the Cowboys story, the prison story, the standing on the back of his car looking over the fence story? No I didn't think so. How 'bout yet another way to make it sound like JD runs around saying the N word all day long? They spend an hour or two a week on that. Oh and of course even though we've listened all week long to content we first heard 2 years ago [and again 1 year ago, and again 3 months ago, and again 5 weeks ago...], because Newton's sitting in we have to replay the entire week again for his benefit. God forbid we have one day with new material. And on top of that we have to listen to everyone on the station kiss his ass while we listen to the same old crap.

P&K's sudden departure certainly has the characteristics of a "ship jump."
Their CBS contract may be out and they have to wait for a certain date before popping up in their new home --- remains to be seen if that's in this market ... I would doubt it.
I always thought they'd make a much better morning show, where they might throw in some music.

Given the situation with Russ, guess who will fall to wayside with Gavin and CBS radio?
Timing/public relations wise, now is the time for CBS Radio to change formats and claim we do not approve of spousal abuse.

Do the flip, either to compete with the Edge or the Oasis change. Smooth Jazz on 105.3, Hey, isn;t Lynn Briggs available? How about Tempie-how about Rick Vanderslice and Tim (I forgot his last name).

Either format assures good publicity and certainly bo more P&K.

Party on dudes!!!

Tempie does Smooth Jazz Sundays on KVIL. Vanderslice hangs out at Buli's coffee shop. And Tim GARRISON just took a job in Vegas working for Lynn. But she just quit so I guess we'll see how that turns out. ???
