Heights are something of which I was once afraid, and socialization was also a stumbling block for a while there.
[Fayetteville became widely known as "Fayette-Nam" because it was where many soldiers left for Vietnam from, or where they returned to after their tours of duty. The names (altered as they were) kind of rhymed, that made it start. Additional factors in the term's growth and expansion include: a large number of soldiers, sent back out to a broad dispersion of hometowns, combining their shared memories of Rick's Lounge, the Seven Dwarfs Lounge, and a wide array of other "establishments" with "Asian flavor" that were in town. All of this coalesced into a common bonding communal experience kind of thing, and, alas, to the chagrin of community leaders since the 60s, even today, many refer it to as "Fayette-Nam." Fayetteville born and bred baby, you can still hear the practice shelling if you stand and listen for a few minutes though!
