About KIIS-FM's wiki page it says that it plays R&B & Pop and gives rock music low priority. Bold face lie. I'm over here laughing reading thiswdb2003 said:

Yes KJLH plays a great deal of Hip Hop & R&B but I would exactly call it Mainstream Urban thought. I don't fully trust that they'll get the formula right. They little young R&B acts KJLH would give airplay in the 90's to was Jesse Powell, Maxwell, Eric Benét, Keith Sweat, Brandy, Rome, Faith Evans, Jaheim, Usher, Zhané, Jon B., Men of Vizion, Toni Braxton, Tony! Toni! Toné, TLC, The Tony Rich Project and Kenny Lattimore while staying true to much older artists Gary Taylor, Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, Sade and the owner Stevie Wonder. Sorry to be nostalgic.
BTW I was listening to Dev's Dancing In The Dark on KPWR in the 12:00 hour today. I like that song too and DJ Felli Fell's Bommerang Featuring Akon, Jermaine Dupri and Pitbull also.

Yep there are changes at the station but its still a Rhythmic station not Mainstream Urban. It will never sound like KKBT or KMEL. KPWR just goes through phases like it has been for the past 25 years. Neyo, Usher and Chris Brown make uptempo songs so thats why they are getting airplay. I never heard Neyo's One In A Million or Usher's There Goes My Baby and those songs performed well on Mainstream Urban which is not KPWR. Neitherless the CHR crossovers are gone for now. I mostly listen during Power Tools when Im in the car on early sunday mornings
Power 106 been playing Usher since his My Way album from 1997. They played Nice & Slow in heavy rotation in 1997-98. KJLH plays Usher's There Goes My Baby and OMG. Power 106 doesn't play that much R&B at once. If Usher hadn't been a pop star on his sophomore album Nice & Slow probably wouldn't make it on the Power 106 playlist. They played the uptempo remix of Destiny's Child No No No with the Wycelf rap which was a good testingwdb2003 said:

Next's Too Close was being heavily rotated on the station in 1998. The only time they sounded like an Urban station was during KKBT's reign. But stay tuned though…
Side Note: They've been playing Ludacris since 2000, Snoop Dogg since 1992, Black Eyed Peas since 1998, Jay-Z since 1996 and Lil' Wayne since he made his debut in Juvinile's Back That Thang Up in 1999. Some of the Hip Hop & R&B artists that are dominating KPWR's playlist that are doing a different style of hip hop now a days. They've been getting airtime for years on the
station including Puff Daddy & Usher.

Oh I agree, never did I say Power 106 will become a Mainstream Urban. That most likely won't happen, I was just stating that they are returning to their hip-hop lean versus the station sounding like a Rhythmic Pop station.

That was sarcastic BTW - are you kidding? ??? They've even been known to skip pop/rock songs that hit #1 on the CHR chart

Its move towards a rhythmic leaning CHR, though, made sense and continues to make sense- its trouncing the competion in the demos and playing the right hits for the market. The move also started around the time that they kicked out Rick Dees and brought in Ryan Seacrest- they basically refreshed the station without losing the heritage, and they've managed to stay on top. I don't personally like the station and would listen to KAMP or KPWR over KIIS any day of the week, but clearly, they know what they are doing.

When I was in Los Angeles for the summer of 2001, I remeber KIIS would still play music from the late 80's and early 90's. If Im not mistaken didnt they use to have a retro show during the midday a long time ago? I forgot who was doing middays during that time but I think it was Gary Spears. I know Gary moved to KBIG for afternoons. Valentine was doing afternoons at KIIS and JoJo at night has always been on.
KIIS FM never skipped out on rock music. In 1995-96 their heavily rotated rock artist were Alanis Morrisette, No Doubt, Green Day and Sugar Ray but played some R&B/Hip Hop in the balance. Around 1995-96 they were playing TLC's Red light Special in high rotation. Even KPWR played TLC's Red Light Special to move in on "The Beat". The teen pop & boy movement of 1998-99 included N'sync, Backstreet Boys and Pink,etc. KIIS plays whole a lot of artist no matter what color they may be. It's unheard of.wdb2003 said:

KIIS plays nearly all of the big rock and country songs that chart well, but these have been few and far between as of late...
^There's nothing wrong with KIIS leaning rhythmic...I just thought it was strange that people were refuting the Wiki article explaining that they don't play a lot of rock - I'm sure even KIIS's PDs would agree with that (at least from the early 2000s to about a month ago)
As far as KIIS playing the rock songs that "chart well", that's not true at all - there were a huge number of rock and pop/rock CHR hits that went Top 10 in the 2000s that KIIS didn't touch - and even a handful of #1 songs - you can claim that they weren't "quality" songs, but 95% of pop stations nationwide would've disagreed with you
