Houston area radio notes (update thread)

K291CE 106.1 is back on the air Saturday evening; at an earlier check it was Radio Vision Latina, but just before midnight it was running the Romance format. Appears they were working on either the transmitter or the audio feed, some distortion but sounded as if settings were being tweaked.

Getting ready for a new format launch, or just trying to keep it on the air with a filler format while awaiting a new programmer?
 
You would think that guel wants to stay on the good side of the FCC, but by rebroadcasting a translator that has no primary ... well, that's not smart. I guess it was that or turning it off till who knows when.

I suppose they could claim KJFI as the primary.🤣🤣

But as far as OTA program pickup, K291CE’s transmitter is just a few feet from KMAZ which would make that rather unlikely…🤪🤪🤪
 
The Romance format is still going on 106.1 this Labor Day morning. Should we assume they are now leasing K291CE?

Is this the only remaining format Latino Broadcasting has on air, now that La Mejor is being run by Space City Broadcasting (if I understand things correctly)?

La Mejor still mentions LATINO BROADCASTING, La nueva is technically a LBC station too but their ad mention LA NUEVA NETWORK.
 
This is a really good source for rules regarding a translator using an LPFM as a primary. A translator must pick up the LPFM OTA. If the translator is commonly owned by the LPFM, it has to be located within 10 miles of the LPFM in Houston and have some kind of 60 dBu overlap. If it’s not commonly owned those rules don’t apply but it must still pick it up OTA.

Both KEPH and K217DJ are owned by Calvary Chapel of Southeast Houston. Measuring on Google Maps the 91.3 translator is just under nine miles from the 95.3 primary, so the rules are being followed here.

I think K217DJ is on the same tower that was the original location of the transmitter for 92.1 (which began as KZRQ.)

IIRC K217DJ ran a South Asian format years ago, can’t remember the name. I vaguely recall it might have had some other programming along the way.

Sorry it was 2 different comments. But it’s not possible for a 102.5 translator to pick up and relay another 102.5 OTA.

And the PI code is an identifier in RDS that usually points to the call sign and the 106.1 translator is set to 284E which is KJFI. Romance on the 102.5 translator and KJHJ-LP uses a default unassigned FFFF PI code. Romance on 91.5, Radio Vision Latina 105.3, & now Power 99.5 use the PI code for La Nueva 94.1 for some reason.

106.1 is claiming the primary is 880am W.T.H?

Romance 106.1 is just simulcasting 99.5. Anything said on 99.5 will be heard on 106.1. I have noticed 106.1 sounds clear but has no Bass to it. 102.5 has more Bass but has that ocasional loud buzz.
 
I posted back in October of 2024 in the San Antonio page that there was Romance 99.1.

And here in Houston our local Romance just posted that the welcome their new station in San Antonio 99.1.

Are they just realizing that they are on air 😂??
